show your hate for UB40

snowflake

this has to be the one band in the universe that i have
hated from the first moment i clapped eyes on them.

they used to be rather big in Holland and a lot of that
rubbish they play entered top 40.

i think they have like 17 repackaged best off albums in
stores over here.

my brother used to be quite a fan of theirs.

whenever i hear that moaning, grating, whining voice of
the lead singer i just wanna hit my head against a wall

however, i have never met anyone yet who agrees with me
on that. most people seem to think UB40 is just fine...

what about you guys?

same here.

that lead singer's WHINY, NASAL voice..

whenever I hear a UB40 song I either leave the room or change the station or put my fingers in my ears.. ANYTHING to avoid listening to them!

plus
"red red whine" got PLAYED TO DEATH when it 1st came out,
then about every 10 years someone plays it on the radio again & it has another "small wave" of popularity..

what I hate MOST about the group is that they DARED do an "remake" of the AL GREEN CLASSIC "Here I am (come & take me)"
THAT RIGHT THERE is REASON ENOUGH for me to dislike them.

I remember that the meaning of "UB40" is the unemployment form in Great Britain..
HOW APPROPRIATE
because that's EXACTLY WHERE these HACKS ought to be.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I remember, like, two songs by them.

The remake of "Red Red Wine", which is still fun if you only hear it like once a year at summertime.

and the remake of "I Can't Help Falling In Love" where they looped the drums from the end of "Run's House" by Run-DMC. I haven't heard that one since `93 though.

Back in the day, they were considered pretty cool and alternative. "Red Red Wine" got tons of airplay on a free-format radio station called WHFS in D.C. and so UB40 became cool with the college/alternative crowd. The story of how they formed was even cooler. They were all unemployed and the name of the forms they had to fill out to get paid were called UB40. So they all decided to form a band. None of them could play though. From there they developed a cult following (their first 3 or 4 albums were great) but then "I Got You Babe" w/ Crissy Hynde was a huge hit. I don't even think they knew it would be huge. From there they just cashed in, targeting the VH1 crowd and made horrible, but catchy reggae tunes for soundtracks, etc. I hated them for it as well. Then again they had like 15 people in the band or some shit so they had to find a way to pay all of them. I think they are all millionaires by now.

Co-Sign. I first heard them on WHFS but sadly they just started to go down hill

Check out the first couple of CD's.

Have they written any original songs? I don't hate them, but the songs I know are:

Here I Am--Al Green
Red Red Wine--Neil Diamond
I Got You Babe--Sonny Bono
Can't Help Falling in Love--Elvis (I don't know who wrote it, though)

They stumbled onto a good formula.

The one thing I hate about UB40 is that some people consider them to be a Reggae Band! NOT!!!!! There music sounds like they recorded it using those cheap $19.99 Keyboards from K-mart. Especially on that song "Don't Break My Heart". UB40 is a band who should stick to playing Bar Mitzhva"s and Wedding Parties. Where they'd pass the hat at the end of the gig and split the $40.00 they collect.

-----No one said they were from D.C.. They were very popular in D.C. and I don't think some of you guys like roots reaggae. If you listen to the entire album that Red Red Wine is on it is really a bunch of covers of older roots reagae. Which made me go out and pick up the original music.

Those 19.00 keybords were used to recreate that song of roots reaggae music.

UB40 messed up when they stared doing Sonny and Cher covers (LOL)>
