What song? What Artist?

Driving me crazy, I remember a certain P influence from the 1970s who maybe had 1 or 2 hits, including one that had the word purple in it. Loved the song, but cannot remember the artist' name. Please help if you have any idea with this obscure artist. The Search function is down at the org
