A CHristmas Gift from Phil Spector appreciation thread

Post here and show your appreciation for this amazing piece of work!

I just love digging up this beautifully crafted album every December, In fact, it's one of my favourite things about Christmas.

They just don't make 'em like they used to. Is there any other album to ever capture the Christmas holiday spirit so perfectly? From the joyous harmonies sung by The Ronettes to the sheer passion and heartache of Darlene Love's incredible voice crying PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Baby please Come Home, this make for one magical listenng.

Not to mention Phil Spector's amazing wall of sound production at it's finest.

Miles

Definitely one of the great Christmas albums, up there with Elvis' one from '57 and the Beach Boys' one from '64-ish.

Phil was the man in the early '60s, whatever may have become of him since ...

I would highly advise people to try and track down a bootleg stereo copy of this record. The commercial CD release sounds muddy and muffled compared to some of the amazing bootlegs I've heard (you swear you're in the recording studio with them). The whole Back To Mono box sounds like crap. In fact, the guy I bought mine from also included a second disc with 25 in-studio takes of the tracks, complete with studio chatter from Phil ("Sleigh Ride, third overdub, take two") & Darlene!

i would pay good money to get my hands on those bootlegs. they're not available anywhere in dublin and unfortunately i've no idea where else to look. i remember u hooked me up with the "original" versions of Walking in the Rain, Be My Baby, and Baby, I Love You, and I completely agree with u... the sound is vastly superior, although I'm by no means an audiophile.

I found mine on eBay a few years ago, but I don't think the guy is actively selling them anymore after eBay started cracking down more on boots.

I'm uploading 'em right now for you. Check your orgnotes soon - and anyone else who wants them just orgnote me for the link. Merry Christmas!

i had to hear this in the car on the way to relatives. My dad, a bit of a hi-fi nerd, said the cd, from this boxset, sounded worse then the cheapo vinyl copies he got ages ago. Whole boxset sounded like shit.

Phil really outdid himself on the christmas message. Up there with rick wes intro.
