What do people think Prince has a problem, let him live his life how he wants, if you dont like his music dont buy it.. If you dont like the look of him dont go and see him...

Is your life so sad you have to bitch about someone else...

Go and life your own life and just let Prince Get wild...

Thanks for the article. I didnt have the opportunity to read it.
Well, about the topic...I don´t see any problem with Prince. I like the fact that he is putting back the focus on music.
He is releasing some of his best music ever and playing one of his best tours with a real good band. He doesn´t seem to be much in the ´Pop star´ stuff. Now he seems worried about being a great musician again, exactly like in 87 (one of his most musical years, if not the most, when he was excited about jazz, Madhouse, etc).
I couldn´t be happier smile

Mmmm ,,, that's hardly a good criterion for posting it ... you post it if it hasn't been reported by others before.

This was reported on prince.org the day it appeared in City Pages. A quick search on the site shows that.

As usual,Gustavo focuses his replies on the music and is dead on when assessing Prince being at the peak of his musical powers.
Prince doesn't have a problem,it's peoples'perceptions of fame and musicality going hand and hand.It does not.
I'm so glad Prince's true focus is the music...real musicians...live and uncut.
When the lights go down,it's on!

Rereading this article, it was easy to understand the author's point of view in July of 2001, but since then Prince has really proven this wrong.

Vagina

Actually I think the journalists just don't understand where Prince is coming from. Secondly this Vagina should be working for him because I do understand him. Yes I'm greatly Upset that there is a Mani in his life. I think she looks to big for him. She's not petite. If she is giving him the comfort he needs right now cool. It's o.k. if Prince is old fashioned or believes women should be ladylike. But no one will ever tell me what to wear and I think the fans should be able to be themselves also. This is not Nazi Germany already. Emancipation and be glad we are FREE and Rejoice and be Glad! I would say just strive to do your best and to be the best person you can and have fun. Life is short let's not take things so seriously. I will always be able to explain why Prince does certain things and I will always be able to see things his way. You must ask yourselves seriously if I was in this predicament how would I react? Prince is a real person with real needs, fears and hurts. We must respect his privacy and his requests if we truly love him and if we clearly are his fans we must give him his Space. Peace.

I don't get the question.

"Problem" with what? The way I see it, what you've read hear is a fairly standard account of what happens anytime you mix business with art; it's just blown up a little bigger because Prince is who he is and the artist that he is. I've gone through the same thing over and over, as has just about every other genuine artist I know.

There are a lot of similarities in that article surrounding the nature of the relationship between musicians/record lables and painters/galleries. Most art galleries take anywhere from 20% to 50% of a sale for nothing more than the "privilege" of providing a wall on which to hang your work. Any advances you might recieve, however generous, are only loans, not payments, and are in every way directly connected to how much you sell as opposed to the quality of your work.

I didn't read anything in that article (and thanks for posting it. I hadn't read it) that made Prince out to have any kind of "problem" whatsoever. In fact, if you really look at it, he's gradually become one of the most accessible, outgoing and personal musicians working today. He just hates the "scene" and the gossip column mentality that goes with it, and I can't blame him. Hell, myself (and many other people here) have had opportunities to speak with him on many occasions, get up close at his shows, etc. I can't think of anyone else that really does this, can you?

Don't get on my man Lewis. He is just tired of games. Everyone needs to be what they want to be, choose their side, and be clear, without messing around and playing with people's mind. That is all Lewis is talking about, and that is all I am saying. Do what you gotta do, but love each other just the same.

Peace,

JD

This was at the end of that article, and ain't it the truth!

As far as Alan Leeds is concerned, Prince ought to take that trademark plea to heart. "As a songwriter, Prince will forever be able to write a hit song," says Leeds. "He's brilliant--way more brilliant than people will ever know, because of the mask, the imagery he is so obsessed with. If the guy would just stop caring what people think. If he would just put on a sweater and blue jeans, go on a theater tour without a band, sit at a piano, and just play. Man. It would triple his fan base. It would blow people away."

Vagina

I would love to see Prince in a pair of jeans and funky sweaters. I remember when he used to wear these Fuschia Cowl neck sweaters.

Prince wears sweaters all the time when it's cold. He also wears tennis shoes and he was wearing flip flop sandals at a couple of soundchecks.

theC

that was a good article.i have felt this way about prince
myself.that he has talent beyond imagination but sabotages
it with all of his bullshit.he wants 2 b surrounded by yes
men and FAMS.say what u will but this is the same thing
that did in mike tyson.he doesn't challenge himself, won't take chances, and will always find some1 else 2 blame 4 his failures.in my heart i'm still rooting 4 him though.that
he can pull it 2gether 1 last time and make US ALL SAY WOW!!!but he's got the club and fans who will buy anything
and accept it as gold(remember all that glitters...)so he probably never will return 2 the form that marked a generation and changed the face of music 4ever.much peace and love 2 the memories u have created.
