Whats weird about this song was it was orginally recorded in 73 but released in 78 . I think it was because the "Fantasy" record company had found the song or something.

They started out on Stax Records and were mostly an instrumental band. They went to Mercury Records in 1976 doing songs with vocals. In the liner notes of their greatest hits (Stax collection), it says they continued recording for Stax from 1973 to 1975 but their input "remained in the can". Fantasy got their hands on "Holy Ghost" and released it in 1978 while The Barkays were on Mercury. I'm thinking maybe Stax was afraid to take a chance on The Barkays' new direction between 1973 and 1975 so the Barkays left and found another record company.

Yeah. I thought that was what happen. I would like to get their greatist hits betwwen 73 to 75. Ive heard their music from 69 to 71. Theyre style was similiar to Funkadelic in the late 60s to early 70s. they had the "Black Rock" thing goin on.

"Holy Ghost" is my favorite song by the Bar-Kays. Even though my Pentecostal Pastor Father was highly offended when he heard someone across the street from us blasting it from their stereo while washing their car. That song was FONKY!!
