I make a distinction between singing groups and bands, so....
If we're talking singing groups, I'd have to go with the Isley Brothers as my faves. Honorable mention goes to Enchantment, Ojays, Chi-Lites, Dramatics, Ltd and Jackson Five/Jacksons. If we're talking bands, My favorite, hands down is WAR, followed by P-funk, Gap Band, Ohio Players and honorable mention to Mint Condition.

That's just for starters! Hah! Somebody like me who makes a distinction between "band" and "group." In my head, "band" means plays instruments, and a "group" strictly sings. I don't know where the notion ever came from, but that's the way I've always differentiated the two. That's why the term "boy band" always seemed a misnomer to me. | |
