70s R&B classic of the day: "Stuff Like That" by Quincy Jones featuring Ashford and Simpson and Chaka Khan (1978)

Back in 1978,this was DA JAM!! For weeks, this was the hottest jam on the radio.Quincy really kicked ass with this joint. The lyrics are interesting...I wonder what exactly is going on?? Why can't Chaka tell us what she saw? Could it really have been against the law? LOL...she later mentions something about "forbidden fruit".Am I the only one who would have killed to have been at this party? lol

"Stuff Like That"
written by Jones,Ashford,Gadd,Gale

walked in the joint
they were lined up back to back
anything you can name,no shame, uhh uh
Stuff like that

Do it-do it
Do it-do it

what makes you feel like doing stuff like that?
what makes you feel like doing stuff like that?

before my eyes
was the promise of paradise
is she real,can she feel?
is she a dream? if ya' know what I mean
cause she was built out of
Stuff like that

Stuff like that (do it-do it) 4xs

I can't tell you what I saw
makes you wonder if it's against the law
was not high you could go
but exactly how low

what makes you feel like doing stuff like that?
what makes you feel like doing stuff like that?

I knew I was captured
by the rhythm of the magic flute
pulling and urging me
to taste the forbidden fruit
Though I felt naive
I did not want to leave
fever was in the air
all of a sudden,I didn't care
no reason why,I just had to testify

What makes you feel like doing stuff like that?
what makes you feel like doing stuff like that?

Do it-do it
Do it-do it

..Nah, not just you. (lol) This was 1978..THE year of partying, Thanking God it was Friday, livin' it up for Friday night and getting your "night fever" on...(Hell, I was a little kid back then and even I could pick the vibe up-lol).. This is a great jam. Didn't know Ashford and Simpson were on this cut. This is back in the when Chaka was a "bad girl". (lol)...good pick!

Indeed.Interestingly, the second track "I'm Gonna Miss You In The Morning" is a duet with Patti Austin and a then-unknown singer named Luther Vandross.

Haven't heard that in a while - that was a groove! Sometimes, I forget how bad Quincy Jones was back in the day.

From Stuff Like That, to Herbie's Tell Me A Bedtime Story and Stevie's Superwoman, just a classic record.

This album (along with Body Heat) pretty much set a new standard for Pop production/arrangements and prepared the world for the Off The Wall and Thriller albums to come.

nod and don't forget George Benson's 'Give Me The Night' and MJ's 'Off The Wall'.It's hard to decide the best Quincy Jones-produced album.

It's impossible to listen to that song and stay in your seat. Even if you can't dance, you'll be compelled to get up and try! The George Benson produced album was one of the best of Benson's career.

This was the time when Chaka would hang out with Q to his fancy parties as his babygirl.

Masterjam had the NASTIEST fights ever, if it weren't for Quincy and band member Tony Maiden's presence. Chaka would've left a mess behind her everytime she walked in the studio. She used to *literaly* wild out on the band members.

falloff @ the inside cover sleeve of her striking a sassy ass pose with a liquor in one hand. Ghetto weavable mess lol

I don't like the bridge ("I knew I was captured...")--it kind of loses the groove--but it's a great song anyway. Quincy was a great pop producer.

I have all of those Quincy Albums - they were truly masterpieces. Quincy was so fierce, even the soundtrack of the all time smash TV mini-series Roots sold through the roof. Awesome soundtrack as well.
