Simply Red Appreciation Thread

Any Simply Red Fans out there? I just got a hold of his "Simplified" album and it is "simply" gorgeous! Reditions of Fairground, Something got me started, and Your Mirror are just great!

But beyond that...Picture Book is a great album...way under rated. Stars is another CLASSIC IMHO. Every song is just pure pop craft.

They got REALLY shit when 'Fairground' came out and was played all day every day for about 2 years disbelief

And 'Stars' IS a good album, but the biggest seller in the UK for 2 years running? eek

Oh, and he's a bit of a twat. Still boned Catherine Zeta Jones though so he must have a big cock.

I know 'Holding Back The Years' is a classic and all, but it only became one for me for that emotional scene in Only Fools & Horses when Del is left alone at the end of Rodney's wedding reception smile

I think they more went crappy after that album. So that was the song played in all of the clubs at the time. Yeah the drum beat got old after a while.

ANd Stars is great! I had no idea it sold that well. I don't know why but I can listen to it over and over. It's usually my Sunday Morning CD.

ANd yes..he is a twat, or so I have heard.

My Favorites...

Come to my aid
Jerhico
Moneys Too Tight
Infedelity
Right THing
Stars
Wonderland
Your Mirror
For your babies
Fairground

I sorta lost track of them after that...until Simplified. I was made a cd with all their stuff on it. There are some good ones in the past decade...but definitely a few missteps.

Last year's Sunrise really reunited me with Simply Red. His songwriting and execution is way underrated.

I only know their hits, but I love Mick's voice. I got really tired of If You Don't Know Me By Now, but Holding Back the Years is a beautiful track. Their remake of Money's Too Tight to Mention is good as well.

On a related note, I love these two flash files, particularly Holding Back.... They've been around for years, but they still give me a giggle. Slightly not safe for work...

I know! If you don't know me...was sort of the come back song for them. Kinda shmaltzy. But if it were not for that song, they may not have had another album.

Who originally wrote Money's too tight?

The Valentine Brothers wrote it and hit the R&B chart with it in 1982.

That explains "reganomics" remark from a Brit who didn't live here.
