Janet to sample the Jones Girls?

JD let loose on a radio interview this morning that he's trying to convince Janet to release a track she cut with a sample of the Jones Girls' "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" as a first single.

I fuckin' love that song. If that's the sort of musical direction she's going in, I can't wait.

Ya. I know some will say "enough with the sampling Janet and Jam/Lewis!" but I like what they do with a sample I must admit. Plus that's their thing and Im used to it now lol.

And what a great song to get to. Just like how JD brought back Face and Bopbby Womack melody for Mariah woot!

Yeah, I can deal with her sampling if it's not a damn song that everyone knows. This song is one of those underrated late 70's track that is just perfect for a project like this.

And JD also revealed that he will NOT be making any guest appearances on the record (praise the lord!)

Here's the full transcript (Janet-related):

Interviewer: So whats going on with Ms. Jackson? Or is it Mrs. Dupri now?

JD: Naw, it’s still Ms. Jackson and she cool, she actually is out in LA today working with Kanye on a joint.

Interviewer: Shout out to Kanye! She working on a new album.

JD: Yeah, she is pretty much done, they are aiming for it to be released first quarter of ’06, around April maybe, could be sooner. She pretty much almost done with it. Every song is bananas, its going be the Janet Jackson everyone knows and loves y’all, I promise

Interviewer: Sounds hot man, you gonna be on it too?

JD: Nah, I’m producing with them but I prefer not to be featured on it, just step back and let her do her thing. She's been doing this longer than me, so Janet is a pro. She has this one joint sampling the Jones Girls "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" that is crazy. I’m trying to get her to release that as the first single, but well see how it goes.

Interviewer: Well we will definitely be looking out for that man.

Sounds good. I just hope JD isn't full of shit. Remember how the last one was supposed to be her "Dirty Mind"? lol

The original tracklisting of Damita Jo was, but then it was scrapped by Virgin after the SB. If you'd heard a clip of "Speed It Up", you'd know he wasn't lyin'. lol That album was supposed to have been much dirtier than the final product was.

I didn't hear anything about that. How much of the unreleased stuff is circulating? Do you have a tracklist?

I guess by "Dirty Mind", I also was thinking the style of it. "Just a Little While" was as close as we got.

I've always liked that song. Up until the bridge, it reminds me of Boogie Oogie Oogie. I'm so torn on obvious samples. They can work in a songs favor (as in Touch It), but in most cases they just make me want to hear the original. At any rate, I'm looking forward to this record. A straight remake of that song could be hot.

She has tons of unreleased tracks from those sessions, many of them with Dallas Austin (who did JALW). No one knows what the original tracklisting was, but we do know Virgin panicked after the SB and insisted it be toned down. There is also a track called "Ruff" that Janet talked about at length a few months prior to the album's release, but it has never surfaced. "Speed It Up" was a Rich Harrison dance track (one that did not sound like "1 Thing" lol) that she used as a background track while auditioning dancers for the SB.

I kind of agree...yeah her songs are radio friendly and "All 4 You" and "Someone To Call My Lover" are great jams....but I chop that up to great production. Any female chick with half a voice could have sang those songs and made them hits. They were hits waiting for someone.

It seems to me she has a great style, but she is getting more and more like her brother with each album, which I have no problems with. In this day and age, everyone in the "pop' genre is pretty much copying what Michael did 10-30 years ago anyways so why not have his sister joining in on it? At least she has a chance to get some of the real "Jackson" genes in here.

Please, guys, let's not turn this into yet another "shit all over Janet thread." The whole "can't sing" argument works with Madonna as well, and her threads don't go that way, so I expect the Janet threads to remain civil, too.
