i used to be a huge fan of both of them, a bit bigger of Mariah though, but that was BEFORE Music Box - in her prime years. Now I am not very much into any of them, but Whitney´s got a nicer voice for me to listen to. But they both are phenomenal singers.

Better voice? Whitney has/had the power behind her vocals. Mariah has/had the range.

Better music? hard choice here... Whitney took a dive with "Just Whitney" and then vanished. Mariah's catalogue being bigger, sort of leaves me wondering what if Whitney hadn't gone down the road she did.

Better looks? they're both beautiful...when they allow themselves to be.

Better acting skills? equal

Better sanity? Mariah seems like she could just snap again at any given moment. Whitney made a couple bad choices (Bobby & 'crack'). then again, your sanity would have to be questionable if you were even considering those two options.

I like Mariah better overall. I think she is a very talented singer and like her songs better. But her personality kinda grates on my nerves. But she is very beautiful.

Better Voice: Toss up. It's apples and oranges really. Whitney has always used her voice better than Mariah has.

Better Music: Again, toss up. Both of them have more bad songs than they do good.

Better Looks: Both were beautiful at one time.

Better Actor: Neither should ever have stepped in front of a camera to do anything other than lip synch a song for a video.

Better Sanity: Whitney at least has crack to blame for her antics.

Anyway, I loved Whitney Houston back in the day, and at her peak, she could out-sing and outclass any diva within 500 miles of her (including Mariah). Unfortunately, she got involved with Bobby and those drugs, and it sent her voice and career down the toilet.

As for Mariah, what's with everyone saying she's a loony mental case? I know she had a breakdown a few years ago, but that doesn't mean that she goes around randomly screaming "I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE!" everytime she shoots a video or appears on TRL or some talk show.

Better Voice: mariah carey, although whitney has a powerful voice, the actual sound and tone of it is just average and there are many people who sound like her, mariah has a beautiful and unique voice.


Better Music: im not really fan of either but from the stuff i have heard which would be the hits whitney kind of bores me and although nearly all of mariahs songs sound the same, there pretty good. so i go mariah


Better Looks: Mariah carey shes awful looking now maybe because of the weight and the ultra straight blonde hair, but she was gorgeous in the mid/late 90's whereas i find whitney just average looking.


Better Actor: havent seen either of there movies but judging from the previews i'll go with Whitney


Better Sanity: cant comment, i dont personally know either one

When has little miss goodie two shoes ever been black? She has been the absolutely definition of the word "sell out" since day one. Webster's Dictionary should put her picture next to the word.

She came out in 1985 when most black artists were doing hardcore funk. Her music was pure adult contemporary and was whiter than even the white artists of the day. If she seemed black on R&B radio during the 1990s to the present, that's because she opened the floodgates for all the other dull artists like her that would have never been able to tread water in the early 1980s before she came along. With nothing harder in this era to compare her to, I guess she would seem black.
