New Kelis to drop at the top of '06!
CULVER CITY, California — Another round of "Milkshake" coming right up. The first single from Kelis' new album isn't a sequel to her 2003 smash, but it's close enough. "It's just another strong kind of girl record — it's a lot of fun," Kelis said of the tune, called "Bossy." "I don't take myself too seriously. I like to do what I do and get out there and play with people. It's one of those obnoxious things, and people love it or hate it, and that's fine with me." Kelis is shooting the "Bossy" video later this month and releasing the track in January. Her fourth album, The Puppeteer, is due in the spring. " 'The puppeteer' basically means I pull all the strings," Kelis said as she worked the red carpet at the VH1 Big in '05 Awards. "I like to think of myself as a trendsetter, and it sort of just means being in control." "Bossy" features an appearance from veteran rapper Too Short ("I love him," Kelis said) while husband Nas also pops up on the album. ("It's kind of explosive — it's a good one," she said. "You'll have to wait for that one.") Otherwise, there are no other guests. "I'm a solo artist, and I do solo albums," Kelis said. "I always have a few special people, but generally it's just a lot of me." As for producers, Kelis worked with usual suspects Scott Storch, Damon Elliott and Raphael Saadiq, as well as Max Martin, best known for his work with Britney Spears and, more recently, Kelly Clarkson. "I feel really good about it," Kelis said. "I worked really hard, and it took me what seems like forever, so I'm just ready to let it out."

Arent we all. Nope. At least she warns us up front that the new single will be obnoxious Collabos were the only thing that saved her last joint. [Edited 12/18/05 7:23am]

Theres no question that Kelis has done her best work with Chad and Pharrell. Not working with the Neptunes is like Janet not working with Jam and Lewis. But who knows, shes got some heavyweights behind the boards. Something really cool may come out of this.

I agree; her best work was, ironically, when everyone was sleeping on her.

I thought Arista did a good job on her last one. Guess she thought otherwise. Now she's on Jive. Pharrell and Chad's distribution deal with Arista was up and I guess they shifted Kelis over to LaFace to keep her with Clipse

I didn't like most of the non-Neptunes work on the last CD. Wanderland is my favorite Kelis album which was all Neptunes. Having said that, maybe she needs to get away from them since all their stuff sounds the same now.

I didn't like most of the non-Neptunes work on the last CD. I'm the total opposite: "Glow" & "Millionaire" were my fav tracks.

Hopefully it's an album that people actually pick up. "Tasty" was a fun album but people just got into "Milkshake"...did they even release another single? I remember that I don't think the album was stocked very well...I got my sister a copy for Christmas when it came out and found the last copy...under her name (it was a new release and major new releases usually are not under people's name in this particular store.

THey just pumped the first single, which was great (although it managed to get annonying) and ignored the album after that. Was there a second single? I think that they either didn't release another single or it got delayed to the point of being to late. I think the album was a Neptunes/Arista release and they were having issues with the label....thus she did as well. The fact that they aren't on this upcoming album says something.

There was a follow up single called Trick Me that nobody paid attention to at all....Dallas Austin wrote or produced the song I believe.

I do remeber her performing "Trick Me" on SNL and and there was a good reaction (it's a good song) but they never did make a video, did they? Kiss of death...There was a video for "Millionaire", but I think that was only an import.
