Like A Prayer

A turning point as a song writer
During last night's Madonna tv special on Swedish tv, a snippet of an interesting interview from 2001 with composer Patrick Leonard was shown among other things. Speaking about the Like A Prayer album he said that" none of the songs took more than more than two or three hours to write".

Incredible songs such as Like A Prayer, Cherish, Spanish Eyes, Oh Father, Dear Jessie were done in the first five days of writing, Leonard to the interviewer, the same journalist that asked Madonna to look back at that amazing 1989 album during the Confessions interview.

Madonna on Like A Prayer:
I think that's the record I started to write more serious lyrics. With Like a Prayer and Live to Tell, I think that was the first time I started writing songs that were more soul searching and deeper, asking questions about life, dealing with my relationships, with my family, my parents, my husband, life in general. I think it was a turning point for me as a song writer.

lol That intro is corny, but beyond that it's a great song. The more I listen to it (which isn't often), the more sorrowful it becomes. I can't imagine writing that was a happy experience.

My media player runs things on a loop, and so when I clicked on the link Cinnie posted back when we were debating Til Death Do Us Part vs. Oh Father, the fucking clip played OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. It was one continuous loop of crap...almost funny to listen to. Almost.

No1 described that record better than Rolling Stone in 1989:

"Like a Prayer is proof that Madonna should not only be taken seriously as an artist, but that hers is one of the most compelling voices of the 80's"

Like A Prayer is one of my favorites if not my favorite CD's of hers. It's great from start to finish.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Her best album in my opinion!!! smile

"Cherish", "Oh, Father", "Dear Jessie" & "Till Death Do Us Part" are all time favourites of mine!!! cool

"Express Yourself" and the title track are some of her greatest singles!!! cool

I'm just thinking: Was "Like A Prayer" mainly inspired by Prince's "Lovesexy"??? hmmm

Is that Patrick Leonard?? I've always wondered what he looks like. hmmm

I'd love to see more interviews with him - I bet he has some fascinating stories.

nod

Wow, he must be mysterious if even you haven't seen him David!

Stupid of me, but he looks nothing like I imagined him too. I always imagined him as a lot older than Madonna for some reason.
