Beck - Guerolito listening to it for the first time now and i have to say that i'm not too happy with it. it's cool, but there is not a lot of groundbreaking stuff here. in fact, most of the songs kinda flow along being not an awful lot different from the Guero versions, apart from a few tweaks here or there. very uneventfull and just bland in places. the things that jumped out for til now are "ShakeShakeTambourine" which is actually quite a cool remix and there are a few very nice touches in the "Earthquake Weather" remix. the "Hell Yes" remix is just ok, but perhaps only because the rest of the preceding material sounded so weak. "Broken Drum" by Boards of Canada closely resembles the mix that was previously released on an EP, although this one is less sparse and misses some of the magic from the first version imo. Having said that, this has some very nice strings that backwards keys which sound rather nice. the "Scarecrow" remix starts out very promising but ends up being just a bit of a mess if you ask me. "Wishing Coin" and "Farewell Ride" are droning and just too repetitive and boring. Though "Rental Car" is a nice one again, it's a breath of fresh air after that last stretch of heavy, pretentious and boring mixes. It's light and bouncy. Last, but certainly not least is "Emergency Exit" which is the first one that -to me- sounds like a real remix, and not just some knob twiddling. Having said that, I still don't think it's really good and once you kind of get into it it's already finished. it's a great intro but not a great remix lol. Such a shame since I expected so much from this. However, Guero already is one of the best 5 albums for me this year so I guess expecting the remix album to be as good was a bit silly. The songs were already way too cool in their original format. Remixing adds very little to them and it even drags them down in a lot of instances. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I saw him perform on one of the old SNL repeats they run on cable. I don't know what song it was but I've dancing around the periphery of his music for awhile and now I'm ready to dive in. Any suggestions of what I should start with? Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I like them all up from "Odelay" really depends on what you like though since his albums are all quite different from one another. Odelay, Midnight Vultures and Guero all have a bit of everything. Mutations and Sea Change are both more reflective and quiet affairs. My personal favorites are Sea Change and Guero. read some of the beck reviews on www.allmusic.com that will give you a bit of an indication. But really, with any one of these five albums you can hardly go wrong. Especially if you start with one of these Midnight Vultures Sea Change Guero and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Yeah it sounds like he has a lot of variety but I like most of what I've heard. I'll check out the reviews. Thanks. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I'm not too impressed with Guerolito either.. the best beck remixes are when Beck remixes them.. he is more eventful and interesting...
I would suggest the two exclusive tracks for guerolito on iTunes.. they are pretty good, and they arent on the album....

Midnight Vultures Sea Change Guero Mutations Odely I've suggested these on some other thread recently.. I don't think you could go wrong picking any of those as a first.. but I will say this.. If you dont dig a certian one, don't give up.. Beck is a wonderful musician who never repeats same formations on his albums.. they are all very unique and different. One's in bold are my 5 star beck albums..

I never liked Beck until recently. I always viewed him as kinda of a goofball. Talented but too nerdy for me. Well somehow I stumbled upon Mutations and I fell in love with it. From there I went on to other releases and now I really dig him.
I think Guero might be a good starter because it's kinda of a culmination of all the styles he's done before on one disc. Songwriting is better though on all the other albums others have mentioned. Go to your local library, most carry a good selection of music and if they do they are sure to have some Beck. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Kindof sounds like midnight vultures era... i would say it sounds the same as hers.. but his deep vocals on it.. and some crazy ass sounds towars the end.. but when he does the "Feel good time" he is screaming it.

I wasn't digging Guero all too much so I was a bit disappointed that the remixes didn't appeal to me all that much either.
Seachange is the real gem for me.
