Yoko's cash-in continues

Yes, Yoko has licensed John's image for a fucking action figure. neutral

National Entertainment Collectibles Association is the company with the license, and they've got a picture of the 18-inch plastic Lennon. They say it will talk, speaking "John Lennon" phrases. They also say it will be known as "The New York Years" Lennon.

NECA says this is the first ever licensed Lennon figure ever. That's quite a distinction. There is a line of "Yellow Submarine" pose-able figures, but those are of Lennon and the other Beatles in character from the animated film. This is actually one of Lennon, with all profits going to Ono.

Good for her. Nobody squawked when there was a Joey Ramone action figure, or a Janis action figure, or a Jimi action figure. Why shouldn't she benefit from it? She's his widow.

Because John would not have wanted it this way - and she's his widow.

i'm sure john would have wanted her to be provided for, and i think there's more to "all proceeds go to yoko" than meets the eye. i'm sure at least some of the proceeds are going to some charity. she doesn't exactly embody the bling bling jetset lifestyle like SOME celebrity widows we all know and love (to hate)!

I'm sure she is provided for without whoring his image. I'll always remember the Christmas she gave Julian a set of John Lennon dishes. Nice!

i'm sure there's more to the story than we've been allowed to hear on VH1. if julian's being mistreated so horribly by yoko, then where's cynthia in all this? why isn't she standing up for her son?

She has always stood up for Julian. Maybe you haven't read the various articles, such as the 1999 Hello interview.

I guess Yoko invented the remix.

On the song with May Pang's voice on background Yoko went back and dubbed her voice.

There's been some revisionism on her part also.

These ARE the pros and cons of hitchiking.

I have to agree but I'm not a huge Beatles or Lennon fan to the point where I'm crying for her blood. I find it more funny than anything else.

I think both her and Julian where on the Howard Stern show talking about this. And it's not just the money...Julian was really pushed out of the picture because of Yoko and Sean (maybe not her doing but that's what happened).

i just get really tired of how fashionable it is to hate on yoko, without bothering to acknowledge the actual POSITIVE things she's done - not the least of which was her ability to make john very happy when he was alive. but it's not as fun to go that route, i understand. rolleyes

why do i post on yoko threads on here? lol

Kuuuuuel.
I think they should make an action figure of her to go along with John's.
And maybe they could make it so that whenever your kid starts to bang on a bunch of pots & pans, the doll would start to make a bunch of wierd yelping & barking noises.

I think Yoko would know better than fans what John would have or would not have approved. I think she has handled his legacy in a way that is positive and in a way designed to please the fans.

Why do I hate her? I'll give you one example.

"SEASON OF GLASS" COVER PHOTO SELLS AT AUCTION

(Entered April 17, 2002)

LONDON (Reuters) - A poignant photograph of John Lennon's blood-spattered spectacles taken by his widow after the singer's murder sold at auction for $12,720 Wednesday. Bonhams auction house said an unnamed American buyer bought the photograph after reading about it in The New York Times last weekend. The image, one of only six prints, shows John's glasses beside a glass of water on a table set against a New York skyline. Yoko took the photograph in the couple's New York apartment and used the photo for her emotional 1981 album "Season of Glass." The proceeds of the sale will be donated to Artist Residencies of Tokyo, a charity that supports aspiring artists in Japan, where Ono was born. ($1=.6926 Pound) The photograph was put up for auction by Johnnie Walker, a fund-raiser for ART.

Remember, the Beatles were probably the most marketed group in history. 40 years ago there were Beatle wigs, dolls, lunchboxes, guitars, cartoons, clothes, movies and on and on. I think it's kind of cheesy, but it's not like a sacred line is being crossed for the first time.
