The New Minimalism

Forget about instruments!

Forget about melody!

Just use a simple atonal drum beat and have some broad TALKING over it.

1. Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
2. My Humps - Black Eyed Peas
3. ?

Add to the list! I think it's a new movement.

That pop punk band Say Anything has a sick ass unreleased track called Wow, I can get Sexual too which fits this description. But it's hot as all hell. Except the shitty bridge.

I would have thought "Justify My Love" but that's very old. Nothing 'new' about it.

Make Up by Vanity 6 is often cited as an early example of proto-electroclash.

Psst! That actually had a melody and was a completely original soundscape. Neptunes Stock Production #3945858b, however, is NOT.

Lets not slam the Neptunes. Any reasonable person would say that they have contributed numerous quality productions, most of which are NOT cookie cutter.

"Kiss" actually has a chord progression (12 bar blues) and melody.

Yeah, too bad those were all in 2001 and they've been repeating themselves ever since. And too bad they stole most of their beats from P and other funketeers.

I beg to differ. The Neptunes have written and produced tons of innovative music in many different genres since 2001. Where have u been? confused

I think you should start a thread on the Neptunes unoriginality (wait, that's already been done, so don't bother). Most orgers will agree with me. But you're a BEP fam, so I understand why you'd have that POV, since their stuff can be so similar.

It wouldnt matter to me who agreed with u. It wont change my mind. I appreciate a wide variety of different artits, so u cant define or pigeonhold me to any one genre or style. U not appreciating the Peas doesnt hold u up as some authority on how good or bad a particular artist or style is. The way u are carrying on leads me to believe that u need to trash other people and their tastes in order to make u feel better.
Again, if u dont like something, thats cool, but lets not brow beat people with what U think is the standard. That shit is just rude and disrespectful.
