What is YOUR "changing track"? OK so we all read how when Madonna was interviewed on BBC, she was asked what song changed her life, and she chose "When Doves Cry" by Prince.
If you were asked what your changing track was, what would you name?

Personally, I would have to just name LL Cool J's Mama Said Knock You Out album as what changed my life. I started editing with my tape deck and making beat tapes after hearing that one in grade 5.
I can't name one song. I am bad with song lists.

Tori Amos' God. Time stood still for the 3 minutes that I first heard that song. I came from a very religious family, attending Catholic shcools and to hear the word God being used in that song that way was extremely liberating for me. It got me started reading books about agnosticsm, eastern relgions and sexuality that I had never been exposed to before. It was like the lights had been turned on. I was 14 years old. Who woulda thunk?

...i'm so excited- the pointer sisters and i wanna be your lover
and neil youngs- heart of gold I want to live, I want to give I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold. It’s these expressions I never give That keep me searching for a heart of gold And I’m getting old. Keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I’m getting old. I’ve been to hollywood I’ve been to redwood I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold I’ve been in my mind, it’s such a fine line That keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I’m getting old. Keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I’m getting old. Keep me searching for a heart of gold You keep me searching for a heart of gold And I’m getting old. I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold. I, of course, have a list:
* "Are You Experienced?" turned me on to guitar in the craziest way when I was 12 or 13 * "When Doves Cry" really hit me sonically a year or so before * Stevie's "Isn't She Lovely?" "You are the Sunshine of My Life" taught me about melody (thank God for my dad and his taste in music), as did Herp Albert's "Rise" and another popular, 1970s instrumental whose name and artist escape me... * "The Long Day is Over" by Norah Jones. That woman's use of space and phrasing bowl me over every time. (And, she fine... ) [Edited 12/15/05 18:23pm]

So Cruel by U2
We crossed the line Who pushed who over It doesn't matter to you It matters to me We're cut adrift But still floating I'm only hanging on To watch you go down My love I disappeared in you You disappeared from me I gave you everything you ever wanted It wasn't what you wanted The men who love you, you hate the most They pass right through you like a ghost They look for you but your spirit is in the air Baby, you're nowhere Oh...love...you say in love there are no rules Oh...love...sweetheart... You're so cruel Desperation is a tender trap It gets you every time You put your lips to her lips To stop the lie Her skin is pale like God's only dove Screams like an angel for your love Then she makes you watch her from above And you need her like a drug Oh...love...you say in love there are no rules Oh...love...sweetheart... You're so cruel She wears my love like a see-through dress Her lips say one thing Her movements something else Oh love...like a screaming flower Love...dying every hour...love You don't know if it's fear or desire Danger the drug that takes you higher Head in heaven, fingers in the mire Her heart is racing, you can't keep up The night is bleeding like a cut Between the horses of love and lust We are trampled underfoot Oh...love...you say in love there are no rules Oh...love...sweetheart... You're so cruel Oh...love...to stay with you I'd be a fool Sweetheart...you're so cruel Pulled me out of the hardest time in my life, and opened my ears to the band that has become my favorite ever. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens Wipe my nose, get my new boots on I get a little warm in my heart When I think of winter I put my hand in my father's glove I run off Where the drifts get deeper Sleeping Beauty trips me with a frown I hear a voice: "You must learn to stand up For yourself 'Cause I can't always be around" He says when you gonna make up your mind When you gonna love you as much as I do When you gonna make up your mind 'Cause things are gonna change so fast All the white horses are still in bed I tell you that I'll always want you near You say that things change, my dear Boys get discovered As winter melts Flowers competing for the sun Years go by And I'm here still waiting Withering where some snowman was Mirror, mirror Where's the Crystal Palace But I only can see myself Skating around the truth, who I am But I know, Dad, the ice is getting thin When you gonna make up your mind When you gonna love you as much as I do When you gonna make up your mind 'Cause things are gonna change so fast All the white horses are still in bed I tell you that I'll always want you near You say that things change, my dear Hair is grey And the fires are burning So many dreams on the shelf You say I wanted you to be proud of me I always wanted that myself When you gonna make up your mind When you gonna love you as much as I do When you gonna make up your mind 'Cause things are gonna change so fast All the white horses have gone ahead I tell you that I'll always want you near You say that things change, my dear Never change All the white horses

every album "earth, wind & fire" made was the soundtrack for my family, but my grandma was crazy about the "that's the way of the world" album...lol every time she'd have a drink or be "feelin mellow" as she called it,she'd say to me "baby, turn maurice up a bissle would ya?" and i 'd play number 3 and she'd start singin "the reasons...the reasons that we're here....."

Those days two years ago when I downloaded Stevie Wonders classic 70's records.
After that I have been listening to music non stop. I will never forget the first time i listened to Golden Lady, I was totally blown away. Stockholm i mitt hjärta..

When I bought my first CD in 1995. It was "Design of a Decade". I heard "Nasty", and I knew right away where my musical tastes lay. And also what the soundtrack to my youth would be.

This is my nomination as well That song is a pivotal moment on that album and that album inspired me to be strong, courageous, take ownership of myself and dive in to my life head first. This song is everything Prince, everything I loved about him, Everything that inspired me. Sex, God, music, dance.....a swirl of life itself. .
