catchy 80s hit of the day: "Automatic" by The Pointer Sisters (1983)
"Automatic" written by Brock Walsh-Mark Goldenberg Look what you're doin' to me I'm utterly at your whim all of my defenses down Your camera looks right through me with it's x-ray vision and all systems run aground All I can manage to push from my lips is a scream of absurdities every word I intended to speak winds up locked in a circuitry (chorus) No way to control it it's totally automatic whenever you're around I'm walkin' blindfolfed completely automatic all of my systems are down, down, down, down What is this madness that makes my motor run and my legs to weak to stand I go from sadness to exhilaration like a robot at your command My hands perspire and shake like a leaf up and down goes my temperature I sought the doctors to get some relief but they tell me there is no cure they tell me No way to control it it's totally automatic whenever you're around I'm walkin' blindfolded completely automatic all of my systems are down, down, down, down Automatic Automatic Automatic Automatic Look what you're doin to me I'm utterly at your whim all of my defenses down your camera looks right through me with it's x-ray vision and all systems run aground All I can manage to push from my lips is a scream of absurditities every word I intended to speak winds up locked in a circuitry (repeat chorus)

My favorite Pointer Sisters song. Very Prince-like. I like the altered vocal track. Gives it a strange feel.

I LOVE this song. In fact, that's my favorite Pointer Sister song. So cold and funky just how I like it!!! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

How funny. I've been totally rockin' out to the Pointer Sisters for like the last month.I have "Contact" in my car right now. OOOOO Twist My Arm! As far as "Automatic", that is one of my favorite Pointer Sisters songs. I remember when it was released and everyone thought the voice was that of a man, or that the voice had been altered. So many were shocked to find out it was Ruth's actual voice. By the way, from what I understand, June has been kicked out of the group due to her drug issues. note- Does anyone remember the unedited version of the "I'm So Excited" video with June standing up and getting out of the tub with the bubbles? She lifted the towel to cover her breasts but her private area was totally exposed. I remember all of the video shows were showing it and had no idea. After a couple of months word spread and they edited the complete exit out. It was so scandalous at the time. That and of course Madonna popping out of her top in the "Papa Don't Preach" video. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

When I saw DJ Premier live on the turntables a couple weeks back, he threw in this song into his set

You know I remeber this song from my childhood....and I just found out recently that it was The Pointer Sisters...I always thought it was a man singing... I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

"Automatic" is a great song from a great album. My favorite is "Baby Come And Get It". Andy is a four letter word.

I remember this!!! In fact,I saw the unedited version just a few years ago (can't remember where).I thought my mind was playing tricks on me,lol.June is in a bathtub, and when she stands up,you can see EVERYTHING! Her entire private area is exposed, pubic hair and all.I can't believe the video's director didn't catch this before releasing it,lol.
