Hound Dog was a remake, and the melody of Love Me Tender was taken from an old Civil War-era song called Aura Lee. I learned that in sixth grade when I played it on the recorder.  At any rate, I love both songs, but Hound Dog is the better track. It's also a Billboard chart milestone. With that song, Elvis became the only artist to hit #1 on the pop, country and R&B chart with the same song. | |
