Z Cult Favorite/Mommy, What's A Funkadelic?" and Curtis Mayfield "Curtis"

Sound familiar? For those who may not know, check out Funkadelic's first album from 69. Also Mayfield's "If There Is A Hell Below" The intro "Don't worry. If there is a hell below, were all going to go!!!" Both songs make up P's "1999" intro. Just for those who may not know.

Nah, nah, nah Finess. It's the right forum. I'm refering to two artists that tied in with what P used for one of his most known songs. That's why I kept saying "for those who don't know." Over in non-music, it would have been a no-brainer, maybe. I figured that there's a lot of kids over here that just might not know of little certain things like this. Sure, it's a gigantic chance that they might not give a shit, but for those who are interested in who P was scoping, then cool.

Yep. The thing about it though is that I'm younger (at heart) than many of them are.

Damn B! You are truly my brother because I was listening to both of these last Sunday and was thinking the same thing. The intros so sound much alike. Good connection on the "1999" closeness.

Did I hear someone page me lol

BG I can definitely relate. Mommy, What's A Funkadelic from Funkadelic and Don't worry... from Curtis are two of my all time favorites. And BG is dead on about the 1999 connection, both songs are a direct influence on that track. Don't Worry If There's A Hell Below is my song. Whenever I listen to that album I repeat that track twice because it just hits on everything. The lyrics are on point, the naive woman talking about the book of Revelation in relation to everyday life is a great touch, that searing bassline, drums and those bongos underneath MAN!!! When Curtis comes in he sounds like a messaih from another universe. And that scream into the music is outstanding. That song is BRILLIANT!!!! Great thread BG. Early Funkadelic and Curtis...Curtis needs more love around these parts, he influenced so many people and put out some great albums.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Don't Worry If There's A Hell Below We're All Gonna Go" is the greatest album opening EVER.

Dig Parker, when 1999 came out, I swear to God, I used to tell my friends in Jr. High that P was biting off of this. Of course, they didn't believe me since they thought P was the creator of everything. So, one day after school, I brought some of them over to my crib. I busted out these two albums and played it for them. They couldn't beieve what they were hearing. They were all like "No waaaaay". Yeah, that was cool. P's ass thought he was slick. He wasn't banking on the fact that folks, especially young ones, were going to be hip to that. Even while they were listening, they were tripping off of how much P had bit off of Jimi, visually, cuz my room was LOADED with Hendrix posters.

BG you've been schooling them for a while. I definitely feel you and its good to have people like you out there to keep this great music/artists alive. It's also good to see that u're a present-day artist with a grasp of music history. I learned about all of these people from friends, musicians, the net, and family since a great deal of it was before my time or before I was mature enough to appreciate it. I've been going back and finding all of my favorites and their influences and I have learned a great deal.
