Tavares Vs. Hall & Oates... SHE's GONE

I believe that the Hall & oates version is the original..and the Tavares re-made it? Or they gave it to the Tavares and they took it back?

I don't know but I know that The Tavares really put SSOOUULL in2 this song..not like the Hall & oates version is bad, but as a group they held it down and even added musical & vocal harmonies that they just didnt capture.

The Tavares version was the first I heard, and when I heard Hall & oates version it sounded stripped down and basic...

Anyone?

I've never heard Tavares' version but Hall and Oat's version seems like it can't be topped!

"She's Gone" is a Hall and Oates song. They recorded it in 1974,but their version didn't become a big hit,at least not yet.Tavares released a cover version that same year and it became a sizable hit on the R&B charts (Lou Rawls also released a cover version around this time). In 1976,the original Hall and Oates version of "She's Gone" was re-released as a single and this time,it became a big hit.

Oh,I agree, the Tavares version is excellent.Several times throughout their career, they recorded re-make versions that can hold their own when compared to the original versions ("Free Ride","Goodnight My Love","To The Other Man").Their version of the Bee Gees' "More Than A Woman" is also noteworthy.

confused I can only agree to dis-agree, so sorry this is only one of many covers that out shines the original. H&O version is a classic as well as Tavares. Tarvares just sounds complete & the harmonies, plus the tempo set it off for me.

I love the background vocals, this song is definitley made for a group. plus they just kinda stop "shes. gone. oh well."

Tavares "Shees GOOOONE! (AAAH!) Awww well!!" with SOUL.

The Tavares version is cool, but there a few moments when the backup vocals oversing it, particularly right after the lead sings the line "..I spent eternity in the city." I also prefer the instrumentation on the H&O original.
