The intro to Reign in Blood is killer though. I use to play that over and over.

Rust in Peace is indeed Megadeth's best, IMO. Peace Sells comes close though.
Among the Living defined "thrash" for me back in the day, and of course Slayer's Reign in Blood - fuckin a. I haven't heard Seasons enough to compare. I like South of Heaven the best I think, but if I had to pick one from that era, it would be tough to deny Reign in Blood. I would add Testament - The Legacy or The New Order - both are great thrash albums - a little dirtier than the other 3 bands, but man, those Chuck Billy vocals are incredible. The Gathering is awesome too - I think that's their latest, from a few years back. It has a deeper, fuller sound to it. [Edited 12/12/05 10:06am]

Signs Of Chaos from The Ritual one of the greatest intros in rock music to me. favorite tracks have to be Over The Wall and Alone in the Dark and their most commerical hit Practice What You Preach [Edited 12/12/05 10:11am]

Yeah, I thought about saying Metal Church, they are great too. Method to Your Madness and Ton of Bricks are my favorites from The Dark. On their first one, are you thinking of Gods of Wrath? That's the first song I thought of when you said one track. It's too bad they never really got up to the level of the big 4.
On Testament, yeah, those songs are great. I gotta give another listen to Practice What you Preach (the album) - I thought they were softening up when I first heard it, and that opinion kinda stuck - but I'm curious now. They got even harder later on though - almost death metal, though they came back to more traditional thrash with The Gathering. Always wish I kept up with Overkill - I loved Taking Over and Under the Influence, but I kinda lost track of them after that.

The Dark is fucking kick ass. favs from that album are Start the Fire and The Dark. I think the self-titled track from the first album is tops, the riff just doesn't quit. On Testament, yeah, those songs are great. I gotta give another listen to Practice What you Preach (the album) Practice what you Preach was sorta like Metallica Black Album or Megadeth's Countdown to Exticntion or Metal Churches a Blessing in Disguise, Anthrax - White Noise, Armored Saint - Salvation; radio friendly metal. The Legacy would be my fav from them. They got even harder later on though - almost death metal, though they came back to more traditional thrash with The Gathering.
I think when Machine Head came on the scene alotta people got more aggressive especially on percussion, though you could also say it when Sepultura when they went that way with Chaos A.D or Roots, and then bands like Meshuggah went even further. It wasn't death metal but vocally it was different. and then there Bands like Obituary or At The Gates are somewhere in between. Always wish I kept up with Overkill - I loved Taking Over and Under the Influence, but I kinda lost track of them after that.
ubderrated they are. [Edited 12/12/05 11:25am]

I was waiting for Exodus to show up! I was never that into them, but I knew a lot of people who were. And I think they started before a lot of other bands that got bigger than them. Gotta check them out again.

Check them out. yea, I heard about them from the canadian metal writer Martin Popoff, they were from Ottawa. Never came across it or heard it on the radio in New York.
