Walk Like an Egyptian was huge as all fuck and all the rage in my 3rd grade class. RUN DMC ruled the world bascially. Walk This Way was huge, and that's the first time I had ever heard of Aerosmith. The Kiss Video/being disappointed with Parade I wasn't impressed with Janet Jackson, though I liked her video What have you done for me lately. Perosnally, I was really big into John Fogerty and the song Centerfield. The Mets had used it alot in promoting their team. [Edited 12/9/05 20:26pm]

It was great seeing them win the World Series. NY was blue and orange that year Musicwise, I remember discovering that Michael Jackson had a sister named Janet with an album called Control. I also discovered Anita Baker with Rapture. I didn't dig it then (I was 7 and she was too slow for me but I liked Sweet Love) now it's among my favorite albums Sledgehammer, Walk Like An Egyptian, Papa Don't Preach were songs I remember hearing all over the place. The biggest thing for me musicwise was getting my first Prince album. It was Parade and my mom got it for me after I saw the Kiss video. It's tied for my favorite Prince album I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Liking Sledgehammer and really loving Big Time ( also Gabriel ) and wondering
ever since why everyone went cock-a-hoop over the video for the former when the video for the latter was just as inventive and amazing Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

I love Human....aside from the synth-sounding drum machine, the song has resonated well with me to this day. Let the rain come down...17 days....

Cameo's "Word Up" LP..Playing the 1st side to death.
Janet's "Control" - Classic. The Jets debut- Unsure if it came out in 1986 but it was played a lot that year. Chico DeBarge - "Talk To Me"..Kind of had a Terry Lewis/Jimmy Jam vibe to it..The video was hysterical...the cover looked a little like "Parade". Van Halen - "5150". Rick James - "The Flag" - I liked Rick...but not that LP. Jesse Johnson (with Sly) - "Crazay" Interesting to see Sly back for a brief period with Jesse and not Prince. Pet Shop Boys - "West End Girls" - R&B radio played this jam a LOT. Prince - "Parade" - Bought it the day it came out and played it back to back everyday for months..Kept finding something new everytime I listened to it..THAT"S the stuff I MISS most about Prince LP's. ....and Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet". In New Jersey, you couldn't go ANYWHERE without seeing a Bon Jovi poster, picture, LP, video, & local wannabee musicians and local posers (male and female) trying to look like Jon...Thank God those days are over.

I discovered dance music thanks to Hot 103.5 in NYC. This was before they became exclusively house and freestyle music later in the decade and at this time played across the board dance hits including a lot of alternative club hits. It was the first time I had ever heard bands like Erasure ("Oh Lamour"), The B-52's ("Summer Of Love") and Sparks ("Music That You Can Dance To"). They also played house artists like J.M. Silk and Marshall Jefferson and pop acts like Janet Jackson and Expose. That was my favorite year in radio ever.
