Donna Summer fans..."I Got Your Love" as a maxi single.

Not sure if this is news, but I just wanted to make sure we all know it's going to be out there Dec 20th. You can hear samples from the remixes on AllMusic.com. Check it out.

She didn't release an album in 1981.She recorded a 2-record set called 'I'm A Rainbow' but it wasn't released....until 1996,that is lol

is that the one you're referring to?

I have mixed feelings about this album. There are some really great tracks here."A Runner With The Pack" is cool,stripped-down New Wave..."Back Where You Belong" is a catchy R&B-flavored track..."Walk On (Keep On Walking)" is superb, easily the best track on the whole album. The mellow "Sweet Emotion" is lovely. She's not really known for her ballads and slower tracks, but this song is excellent.

The thing that disturbs me is that,on this album, she was trying to abandon her disco/dance music roots. She was bending over backwards to position herself as a pop/New Wave/rock artist. There's hardly any dance music here. Most of the songs are rock-ish."Leave Me Alone" (the rumored first single) is Pat Benatar territory.I don't know....I applaud her for taking risks, but I think it was a mistake to move so far away from the dance music that made her famous. So for me,this project is a mixed bag.

She recorded this album in the summer of 1981 and presented it to David Geffen (her record label boss) in the fall.He rejected it,and it was shelved.Bootleg copies circulated for years.A few tracks were released on movie soundtracks."Romeo" appeared on the 1983 'Flashdance' soundtrack, while "Highway Runner" appeared on the 1982 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High' soundtrack. Both tunes are terrible, imo. Finally,in 1996,the entire album was released as a single CD.

I don't think that's excatly what's going on. If I know Amazon, it just means they won't ship it until Jan 3rd (cause they are assholes!). They're not going to make the attempt to send this out before Christmas becuase it sadly isn't a priority. I think it's offical release date is still Dec 20th...It's still listed as that and when I called Borders to order it, that's the date they gave me (but they said they can't pre-order it and don't have any coming in....suck).

Kind of looks fan made, but it's a nice pic. I look forward to seeing the back to see if they suggest if this is from Donna's forthcoming album or not. I wouldn't be shocked to see "Angel" get released, possibly with newly recorded songs. Why not? I mean, when was the last time Donna released a sell through single? "The Pokemon 2" soundtrack.

Probably my 3rd favorite Donna album after "Once Upon A Time" and "Bad Girls". I think if it had been fine tuned a bit better, it could have been her best. Favorite tracks include "Leave Me Alone" and "I Believe In You" (a great duet).

I really want the 'Angel' album to be released, but somehow I don't think it will.In October,Donna supposedly entered the studio to record a new album. Not sure if she even has a record deal at this point.

One problem with this album is that, some of the songs sound un-finished and demo-like.When Donna,Moroder, and Bellotte submitted this album to David Geffen in the fall of '81,it's likely that they were planning to go back and "polish" these songs before it was released.I heard that they were even planning to connect the songs together, like the 'Bad Girls' album, and that one side of the album would be the "electronic" side (probably containing "Romeo","A Runner With The Pack","Melanie" and possibly "To Turn The Stone"),with the songs all seguing into each other.Perhaps with a little more work, this project could have been a masterpiece hmmm

Been there, done that....

I wouldn't doubt that Univerisal wants to keep her on their label in order to make money off of her catalog. I wouldn't doubt if they release a really good boxed set at some point. I'm just suprised they don't just release "Angel"....it can't do that badly!

I could be wrong, but I think that the "Angel" recordings are owned by Sony, unless Donna purchased the master recordings from them (quite likely, since she has pieces of these songs playing on her official site).I don't know who is in control of it,I just want a new album!! Her last full-length studio album,1991's 'Mistaken Identity' is a mess.I know she can make a better album than that.

I'm pretty sure she bought them. Aren't both "I Got Your Love" and "You're So Beautiful" from "Angel"...although, we have yet to see hear the real verison of "Beautiful" on a disc yet. I think she owns "Angel".

As far as making a better album...listen to all of her one offs! She has a great album in her, no doubt. Then again, all of her one offs are probably one offs for a reason....I don't think I could imagine an album filled with nearly all single worthy tracks like that (I would add songs like "Any Way At All" and "That's the Way" to the mix....not necssarily her contributions to Christian compilations, which I'm not familar with). Hey, let's figure out how many mew studio songs Donna has done since "Mistaken" (excluding the "Christmas Spirit" album).

"Carry On"
"Any Way At All"
"Melody of Love"
"Wherever There Is Love"
"Ordinary Miracle" (sadly, never appeared anywhere besides that bad movie)
"Dream Catcher"
"Love Is The Healer"
"I Will Go With You"
"Power Of Love"
"You're So Beauitful"
"Dreams A Lot Theme"
"That's The Way"
"Power Of Love"
"I Got Your Love"
"Are You Brave" (from the "Mister Rogers Tribute"...I'm not hardcore enough to buy this but on Amazon, they are selling it with the remasterd "Christmas Spirit", now titled "20th Century....").

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch, too. David, help me out.

It's frustrating to be a Donna Summer fan these days, knowing that there is so much unreleased music by her that may never get released.I wish she would just say "screw it",and start releasing this stuff on her official site. Why wait around for a record deal? This music is just collecting dust in her vaults. There are at least two fully completed projects from recent years...

***Ordinary Girl---this is the soundtrack to her planned stage play, based on her life and career.Much of it was written and recorded in 1995,but the play never materialized.Likewise, the soundtrack was recorded but remains in the vault.A few of these songs appear in her 1999 'Live and More Encore' concert DVD.

"Be Rich"
"No Ordinary Love Song"
"Gotta Have A Dress"
"I Found A Star"
"My Dream Is For You"
"Begin Again"
"Arms and Legs"
"Rain Rain"
"Chairman Of The Board"
"This Forbidden Fruit"
"If There Is Music There"
"My Life"
"Bitter End"

***Angel---this is the album that she recorded during her brief period at Sony. She was signed in 1999 and began working on this album from 2000-2003.She recorded around 30 tracks but was dropped from the label in 2003.The album remains locked in the vaults somewhere. The rumored tracklisting:

"Angel"
"You're So Beautiful"
"Valley Of The Moon" (can be heard on her official site)
"Half The Battle"
"Adonai" (can be heard on her official site)
"Rain On My Shoulders"
"Only Words" (can be heard on her official site)
"Work It"
"I Got Your Love" (released as a single)
"Not A Day"

mad I want these songs NOW!

A few of those songs,I've never heard. There are a few others that could be added to the list:

"La Vie En Rose"---she recorded a cover version of this Grace Jones classic, sometime around 93 or 94.I've never heard it though.

"My Life"---it appears on the 'Live And More Encore' CD

"I Don't Wanna Work That Hard"---another rare track that appears on the 'Live and More Encore' DVD,but not the CD.

any others?

Yeah, everyone loved "You're So Beautiful", but it was a Tony Moran song. What's the point of having Donna sing a song if you're not going to showcase her vocals? I swear the vocals could have been by ANYONE considering how many filters they went through before the reached the final mix.

Her 80s albums are spotty,I admit.Sometimes it seemed as if she didn't know what direction she wanted to go in.The so-called demise of disco must have confused her.

I think the problem was that she found Jesus and got boring (they do not go hand in hand, but for her they did). Which is not to say she didn't record some great material, but the fire in her vocals was gone. It's as if she was consciously trying to NOT be sexy anymore. lol She's gotten better in recent years, as she's begun to embrace her past again.
