Keith Sweat vs Prince back in the 80'and early 90's I say keith was highly very underrated back in the days. I mean this man hardly had a video and all his songs went #1 back then. thats outstanding.
Prince on the othe hand is Prince. This is a more Keith Sweat appreciation thread. I just wanted attention so you all can show respect to this man by reading this!!!!

I didnt like Keith Sweat at first. After a while listneing to some of his music grew on me. After his debut c.d I did not care for his Ill give all my love to you and his 3rd c.d .I think his 3rd one came out in 91 or 92. When he released Nobody and Got me Twisted I liked his music. Then after that I was not feelin him.

Keith Sweat's debut joint was the jam. His follow up albums got progressively whiny. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Make It Last Forever Lp was off the hook and on "Right and a Wrong Way" if the back ground vocals sound familiar it's Emmanuel Rahiem LeBlanc of G.Q.

I have never liked Keith Sweat from day one. He was mainly a balladeer and the few uptempo songs he had were weak, light, and poppish. That you Shitney Houston for opening the doors for artists like this. Someone like Keith Sweat would never have survived in the early 1980s.
Prince, on the other hand, had plenty of hardcore funk and his funk was strong. His ballads were also extremely sensual. I like my artists to be mosty uptempo with a few ballads. Not the other way around....mostly ballads and an uptempo song every blue moon. . . [Edited 12/9/05 7:44am] Andy is a four letter word.

I read "i want her" was basically the official birth of newjack. Thank god for that. Though keith is only good in small doses i give u that. "why me" with ll cool j is a firm fav, and part 2 remix of that song is dope too. gotta love "merry go round" aswell. His 3rd album had its moments. He never really did uptempo's. He did a few on his 3rd album. "i really love u" i think is one of them. "make u sweat" was midtempo, but it sure was funky. "u say no, i say yes, gi, girl i bet i can make u sweat". Innocent stuff, but sexy.

Keith always seemed to be doing undercover country music to me. He was a country artist, with every listen, masquerading as an R&B singer.
Couldn't dig it. Still can't.

LoL Prince was at his most creative in the 80,s and early 90,s bad eara to put someone like Keith up against him in . You can't experience the unknown will of God on your life until your doing the known will of God.

I just kinda accepted that his voice was always gonna sound like he just gargled with tacks and enjoyed the songs themselves.

I am sorry gargled tack singing does not make you the savior of RnB.

I always thought Keith Sweat was alright. In NYC, they played his stuff to death in 88. You could not escape I Want Her, Something Just Ain't Right, and Make It Last Forever. Those songs were everywhere but I liked them and still do. He did whine a whole lot but those 3 songs were off the chain. Nobody and Twisted weren't bad either. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Exactly. His debut album is superb, with one fine song after another.I never bought anything else by him,but I do like his 1996 slow jam "Nobody".

vainandy said: For real. ok, so teddy didn't save it, but hey, he moved rnb forward. As u have said a million times, adult contemporary was taking over rnb by the mid 80's. Luther, peobo, freddie jackson, and it was obviously excluding the younger crowd (u had new edition but that was more bubblegum pop). Newjack opened doors for new, younger acts and artists with a style of music not seen in rnb before.

Newjack opened doors for new, younger acts and artists with a style of music not seen in rnb before. That's true but Keith Sweat's uptempo songs were not the strong types like Cameo's "Word Up", Jesse Johnson, Ready For The World, Madame X, Chaka Khan's "Earth To Mickey", Egyptian Lover, Trinere, Janet Jackson, or Pretty Tony and Freestyle....groups that were kicking the hard funk in the late 1980s. Keith's uptempo were more weak and poppish kind of like Johnny Kemp's "Just Got Paid" or Calloway's "I Wanna Be Rich". Andy is a four letter word.

Yes he did no diggity with his group Blackstreet. Just to clarify - Teddy was with Blackstreet, not Keith Sweat. And the "check baby" (I like the variant of "cheque" that you threw in there, too ) was Rump Shaker by Wreckx-N-Effect, another Teddy Riley project.

He was just in concert at the local casino in Tacoma last month. Doing the small club circuit I guess.
