I ran a thread a while back on one of my all-time fave disco cuts; "Push, Push "(In The Bush) by Musique.
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

As an actual working musician, Disco was the bane of my existance in the 70s. confused
I was going to clubs to play, not dance. That being said there are some things that stood out.

Anything by Chic would be at the top of the heap.

A few other artists...

Sylvester
Salsoul Orchestra
MFSB
Cerrone
Donna Summer
KC and The Sunshine Band

There are some tunes that ended up being discofied from artists you wouldn't expect like Expansions by Lonnie Liston Smith.

Or even stranger, an artist like...

...Ethel Merman jumping on the disco band wagon.

I wonder how many folks snagged...

...Disco 3000 by Sun Ra or Disco by Blowfly thinking they were getting a dance record just because of the titles. lol

Any tune was fair game for discofication.
There's even a disco version of The Beatle's I Want You (She's So Heavy). hmm

lol...you know,I've heard so much about that Ethel Merman disco album. It's legendary.I may have to hunt it down, just to see what it sounds like.I'm sure it's chessy as hell, lol.

The late 70s was funny. You had all types of artists and bands jumping on the disco bandwagon.Barbra Streisand ("The Main Event") and Cher ("Take Me Home") suddenly decided that they were disco artists....The Rolling Stones ("Miss You") and Rod Stewart ("Do Ya Think I'm Sexy") decided to add some disco beats to their music....even Paul McCartney flirted with disco on his 1979 hit "Goodbye Tonight" and on 1980's "Coming Out".Disco was HUGE and nobody wanted to be left behind.

this song is outrageous headbang

push,push...in the bush
push,push...in the bush

I used to sing it as a kid, without knowing what they were talking about lol

here's an interesting excerpt from the liner notes to "The Disco Years" Part 5 (Rhino Records),which contains "In The Bush"...

Patrick Adams produced a long line of short-lived disco acts (Inner Life,Wish,Phreek),but none so definittively ephemeral as Musique."In The Bush",powered by propulsive horn and keyboard riffs and hyperkinetic percussion,is as infectious as a social disease, but it's not remembered for its musical excellence. It's the record that pioneered the single entendre;subtlety was not in its monomaniacal vocabulary. From the opening "Push,push/in the bush" couplets,it focuses firmly on the joys of sex.The singers complain about the difficulty of attaining peace of mind, but conclude "If you must do a piece piece piece of mine/C'mon and do it,do it".Following a plentitude of moans and outbreaks of orgasmic hysteria, the song winds up,somewhat enigmatically, with the admonition "Some of the time beats part of the time/and part of the time beats none at all",before fading out, presumably bushed.

interesting trivia about this song: the producer Patrick Adams later made a public apology for releasing this song. The song created a minor controversy and some radio stations refused to play it because of it's sexual content.Patrick's conscience made him feel somewhat regretful for releasing it.

You know it was people like her that helped to contribute to the death of disco. When people like her started making disco records, it made people see disco as "uncool".

I wonder if she's still alive. If she is, we need to persuade her to do a hip hop album. Where's Carol "Hello Dolly" Channing, she might even be a better choice. lol

I never understood the disco backlash.I guess when something gets too big and commercial (like hip-hop is now),there is bound to be some kind of backlash.

Yeah, that song appears on a few of the disco compilations that I have.Apparently,it's really hard to distinguish between a "disco" song and a "soul" song from this period. There are some questionable choices on these compilations. For example,Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" is NOT a disco song by any stretch of the imagination, yet it appears on numerous disco compilations.
