Jam Of The Day: "Soul Makossa" by Manu Dibango

This is the kind of jam that I really love. It is one of the funkiest jams ever. If this one don't make your ass shake, then you ain't got no rhythm in your bones. Uptempo, hard jammin', and funky as hell.

Give it up.

I've seen the guy live about 15+ years ago... a hot & sweaty experience!

Didn't Micheal use the chorus from this tune? I remember hearing this song a lot as a kid. Funkadelic's "Standing On The Verge" has some similarities groove wise. Yeah if you can't move to this, you have no soul.

Great tune indeed. Manu never really had another American "Hit".
He's played with Fela and my partner has done gigs with him.

You might like this Herbie Hancock/Bill Laswell colab...

Of course we are. You are "Angie" and I am "Andy". We're so similar, we are like brother and sister. biggrin

Remember we were discussing a local "Soul Train-like" show in my area back in the day called "Black Gold"? Well, when the show first came on the air and didn't have it's own original theme song yet, "Soul Makossa" was the show's first theme song. Then, they came up with an original tune by a local group afterwards when the show got it's feet off the ground. This should give you an idea of what kind of funk we were kickin' down here. biggrin
