so true! in fact, Radiohead's "Airbag" from the "OK Computer" album
was directly inspired by Björk since Thom tried to write a song she could have come up with. I think he started with a bassline that he said "was something Björk would have started out with". It later turned into a real Radiohead songs, but it was intended to be a Björk-ish song from the start
you can just tell by their attitudes that they listen to each others work and that they both respect the other very very much. i can't remember it right now but there is a more obvious connection between the two. perhaps a (live) colaboration or a remix? or did he (thom) write some lyrics with/for her? oh wait a minute, they did "I've Seen it All" from "Selmasongs" and something else together didn't they? i would simply pee my pants for a week if Björk popped up on the new Radiohead album!  and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |

JUERGEN: You once mentioned to me that you and Thom Yorke decided that you both hated yoga and meditation. What was that all about?
BJÖRK: [laughs] Well, I'd always resisted meditation with a full-on defense mechanism, but I'd never understood why. I wouldn't meditate — no way, ever — and Thom felt the same way. He got angry just talking about it. We ended up laughing about the whole thing, but we figured that singing is a form of meditation, where you kind of go to an imaginary place that you've built over many years. It's like a state of trance. So to go to a meditation class where somebody tells you, "Do this, feel this," like they've got an instruction manual on how to get to this place — it's offensive. It's like reading a sex guide before you are with the one you love, and then asking whether they wouldn't mind moving their thigh, like, twenty centimeters to the left — and then measuring it with a stick. First time I heard KID A, I thought it was some kind of Radiohead remix album in the vein of Bjork. If that makes since. Anyway, it's what got me into Radiohead. I already dug Bjork so I guess it was a natural progression. They are both now two of my favorite artist. I've posted quite a bit on both. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way. | |

Meditation is WAY different than playing golf, getting drunk, or even singing. One of the purposes is to rely less on and detach from the ego, which she seems to have trouble with. | |

One of the purposes is to rely less on and detach from the ego, which she seems to have trouble with. interesting...meditation means many thing to many people....personally, for me, yes....yes you can meditate while golfing..riding your bike or walking. and i have never heard of meditation having anything to do with ego. so i guess we all have our own takes on what meditation actually is. i will say this, one of my yoga classmates attended a meditation convention in SF a few weeks back. he said that the two instructors were fighting over the direction of one of the sessions. one ladies concept was more psyhcology based. she kept trying to get the class to reach into childhood pains and the reasons for negative thoughts...the other instructor simply wanted to class to free its mind of lenghty thought...the guy said it was soo funny to hear them calmy (with quiet voices) fight. i'm not sure you read it exactly right. i don't think bjork was saying that she thinks conventional methods of meditation are wrong or bad or distasteful. i think she was just saying that for HER, being instructed on how to meditate didn't work. i totally agree with what she's saying. meditation is different for different people. some people benefit from someone instructing them and saying "if you do THIS and THIS and THIS, then you are officially meditating." others kinda grow up finding their own little internal happy place where they can breathe and be still. i think her comment just acknowledges something simple about human nature. | |
