This per4mance is hair-raising 
Southern trees bear strange fruit, Blood on the leaves and blood at the root, Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze, Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees. Pastoral scene of the gallant south, The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth, Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh, Then the sudden smell of burning flesh. I've seen this clip from someone who I know. She's a HUGE Billie fan as well. "Strange Fruit" is one of my top songs ever by anyone. I have often wondered why u had never ran a thread on this song. I had wanted to, but everytime I start to, I would think, "Nah..I'll wait." Cuz I knew u were a fan. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Thank you so much for posting this, it illuminates a major form of terrorism that has long been glossed over. Very poignant performance, chilling delivery and timeless lyrics. Amazing to think that all of this was going on not very long ago, though some people tend to make it seem like it happened eons ago. Billie Holiday had a voice for the ages. It just saddens me that so many singers in the present day do not have that type of awareness. BTW, thanx for posting that photo. Imagery is an effective tool in bringing a point home. You know they used pictures like that for postcards during that time period. I ran across a site that had a story about that, just can't remember it.

Imagery is indeed an effective tool. No doubt the picture is disturbing, enraging, revolting, haunting...all of these things. So is the legacy of slavery and racism, which is all too often swept not-so-neatly under the rug. The Normal Whores Club | |

Imagery is indeed an effective tool. No doubt the picture is disturbing, enraging, revolting, haunting...all of these things. So is the legacy of slavery and racism, which is all too often swept not-so-neatly under the rug. What's more disturbing is that those who don't understand aren't bothering to read either of your comments. the only strange thing is that apparently it's okay to post a picture of a murdered man, but not breasts or an ass. this is the wrong forum for this. shouldn't be sandwiched in between madonna and michael jackson inquiries, imho.
