Tomorrow it will be 25 years ago that Lennon died

This coming week on december 8 to exactly, it will be a sad 25 anniversary of John Lennon's dead.
confused
Shot down cold by some not to mention FREAK.

I was 7 when it happened, so i did not really experienced it back then, but when i see those old reports, it gives me shivers..

This freak shut down one of the most talented, and most loved musicians of the world..

Let's remember John Lennon as this person....

So here is my tribute to this man, with some pictures.. starting with the one a few hours before FREAK killed him. John is giving him his autograph, not knowing this same person would take his life sad

That's a nice picture of him

pray His presence on the music scene will always be missed. I prefer Beatles John to hippy John, but his music was always great!

I saw a report about Chapman on 20/20(?) recently and, apparently, the reason his mind gave him for killing Lennon was that John was a "phony" (this all had to do with some twisted Catcher in the Rye fixation Chapman had?).

Lennon gave an interview or two around the release of Double Fantasy in which he talked about how his political activism had been "phony" ("Recently he confided, 'That radicalism was phony--a combination of chip-on-the-shoulder teen-age stuff and guilt for having made a fortune.'" - Newsweek, 1980). Interesting.

Lennon said that? I had no idea. Interesting, indeed.

It was on NBC's Dateline....It was a very interesting show. Incidently, Yoko had very harsh words for the producers of the story. She said that it was bad judgement on thier part to do such a story.

Interesting that I'd never heard this quote before either (and I've read tons of Lennon stuff over the years). I guess it was buried because it clashed with the romantic visions of the man people wanted to cling to. Personally, I find it to be an incredibly brave statement and it tells me we would have heard some amazingly complex lyrics from the man had he lived.

I don't think it's ever bad judgement to try and understand why evil exists.

i would rather not meditate on the guy who killed lennon or the way lennon died. i would rather remember lennon as he was when he was alive, because that's where the joy was.

But don't you think it's constructive to try and understand how people become a Mark Chapman?

I've always thought a combustable personality as vacantly volatile with a fake outsider mentality like Lennon who rebelled as guilt reflex against everything he perceived to be the status quo would have sympathised with a tragic figure like Mark Chapman. In Chapman's head, he's a hero. He rid the world of a 'phoney' pop star who pretended he was a revolutionary while getting pissed out of his mind and slapping around barmaids with a tampon stuck to his head. Oh, the contradiction. Such an interesting character. And he looked a bit like Da Vinci's Jesus sometimes. Ugh. Fuck. I like Lennon and his music, I really do. A lot of his art feels alive and real. But the man's posthumous cannonisation as pop's Messiah would have made him laugh his skinny Scouse arse off at the madness of it all. Madness. And as for Chapman? Of course he should he imprisoned for life. But demonising a man and whoring him as a lighting rod for all our hate and self-loathing at the neck-snap deaths of all our fragile innocence(s) is hilarious and sadly predicative of our present blame culture. Society and mental illness made Mark Chapman kill John Lennon, not fucking 'evil'. Christ. Anyone who believes in 'evil' as a real force is a slave to illusion. You have to attack the root before the weeds grow. And make sure the fucking ground is fertile and fruitful before you grow fucking anything. I'm continually amazed we're not all killers. Yet.

John's death is still fresh in my mind, i remember seeing the interruption about John's death and immediately started to cry and then my dad said "how can you cry for someone that you dont know" i said when you know the music and the joy it gave you, you get to know the person for what they stood for.

My all time favorite, Prince included.

I don't like seeing that idiot immortalized in the picture of him with John.

His death made me aware of him as an individual (I was 8). I knew the Beatles, and I knew Paul, but John hadn't done much in my lifetime. But he seemed like he was abot to.

Okay, but it's the fact that it was such a waste--that MDC didn't kill himself instead--that affects us all to this day. And I'm not so sure John would have laughed at the madness of it all.

I was about to walk in to Blackies in Santa Monica to set up for a gig when this guy ran out of the front door crying and screaming, "John's dead. They shot John."

He always appeared to be the wise Beatle, the deep thinker.

When I was a kid and my friends would get together and we'd make believe we were The Beatles, after Ringo (because he was the drummer), I always wanted to be John.

I like that picture of John & Paul because it shows that they obviously liked each other, even in the later years. Their feud was blown way out of proportion.

MDC has applied for early release how many times now? Apparently he's had good behaviour; been the so-called model prisoner. If he'd killed a "nobody" -anyone but John- I believe he'd have been out by now. I understand that even now people are upset about John's murder. I am too, and it happened 5 years before I was even born. But I can't help but think that John would be disappointed with our attitude towards MDC. By denying him the early release he'd surely be granted if his victim was an anonymous face, we're essentially saying John's life was worth more than the average man's. neutral

R.I.P. John Lennon. pray

Tonight there is a big tribute concert in Amsterdam, with a lot of famous Dutch musicians. A lot of them I really like and are well known Lennon and Beatlefans.
Of course I will be there tonight. I think it's gonna be a night to remember!
I remember the day of his murder as it was only yesterday....
very sad day... sad

Love you and miss you John !
