Reconsidering "Late Registration"

I like it, but I figured on second listen I would really dig it. I still only like it. Because Kanye West is the most self-absorbed MC in the history of hip-hop.

Every artist writes about himself or from his perspective. Every MC has to have the ego (or pretend to have the ego) to brag on himself. But not only is Kanye's ONLY frame of reference himself, but he believes his own hype.

They have a compilation out? Well, I have both albums, so are there remixes on there?

You know.. I almost put it on the "duds of 2005" list, but it ain't that bad.

I like it.. I don't LOVE it.

All those Late Registration "classic" ratings are from red-faced critics who didn't highly rate Kanye's actual classic - College Dropout.

Haven't been able to dig this album from Day One. The sketches in between are the best part to me. Other than one track, I don't listen to this album at all. I dug College Dropout more.

Yeah. Its called: Beyond the Spectrum: THe Creamy Spy Chronicles.(Remastered)
Intro
Dedicated
Nickel Bags
Jettin'
Where Im From (remix)
Three Slims Dynamite
Dog It
Rebith Of Slick
Dial 7
Graffiti
Pacifics
9th Wonder (Elaine Brown Remix)
Where Im From (lp)

the remixes are a-ight and the unreleased track is pretty cool. Nothing mind-blowing. What I like is the sequencing of the songs. Having Rebirth of Slick flow into Dial 7 accentuates what an innovative group this is.

sorry for the thread-jack. College Dropout is waaaay better than Late.

Completely agree with you. LR is fine, a few great tracks, but overall, there's just something kind of boring about it.

I have College Dropout, and it's good, but vastly overrated. It doesn't hold a candle to recent classics/near-classics like The Black Album, The Pretty Toney Album, Madvillainy, The Grind Date, or for that matter, 'Ye's own exec-produced Be.
