Homages to Our Favorite Man The current state of affairs of the org is quite distressing. It depresses me to see the lack of involvement/participation when it comes to posting - it seems that everyone has crawled into their shells now that the General Discussion forum has been locked (however temporary it might be...)
So this is my feeble attempt to get those creative juices flowing again. We all know that Prince has had a big influence on a number of artists and the music industry as a whole. What are some songs by musicians/singers/etc that Prince has been mentioned in? The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the infamous "Without Me" by Eminem ("Ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol") and "The Bad Touch" by the Bloodhound Gang ("Me and you do the kind of stuff/That only Prince would sing about"). It's embarrassing that the only songs I can think of are fairly recent and mention the things that Prince is sadly famous for - namely his overtly sexual lyrics and the whole symbol disaster. There MUST be other songs out there with his mention. I'm sorry if this topic has been created before - it seems so blatant and obvious to me, how could it have been surpassed? As I said, this is my FEEBLE attempt, so you'll have to forgive me if this question has been discussed to the death already. I don't understand how it all really works, anyhow - as I see it, the only way to check if someone has already started a thread is to search the forums for it. I tried searching for a number of keywords but to no avail. (The paragraph above belongs in the Site Discussion forum. Sorry about the slip-up - God forbid it should land in the wrong place. Please, somebody... save this thread! I mean, like, where is the sun? | |

Well, he isn't mentioned by name. But in Usher's "U Got it Bad," he has a line saying "I want you to know I truly adore you." He kinda sings that line in the melody of "Adore." *this is for whoever taught you how to kiss in designer jeans* | |

Prince wasn't mentioned, but ?uestlove used the opening drum riff from Madhouse's 4 in the Roots' "What Goes On."
--- And remember when The Senor Love Daddy mentioned Prince when he was naming off artists in 'Do The Right Thing'? | |

I've read somewhere that the song "the whole of the moon" by The Waterboys was about Prince.
& wasn't there a Zapp's song " thank u Prince" or something like this? Wendy & Lisa's "song about" of course... | |

There's a somewhat recent Elvis Costello song (1997 or 98) called "The Bridge I Burned". The story behind the song was Elvis tried to get Prince to let him use a sample of "Pop Life" in the song, or some of the lyrics or something. Prince refused. On the album version, if you listen closely at one part, you can hear Elvis yelling "Priiinnncceee!!!" in the background! It's funny. | |
