My song of the day: You know how to love me This was the first song i heard by the amazing Phyllis Hyman, and once i heard it, i was hooked. I like her ballads, cause she was a "ballad queen", as she described herself, but it`s on the more up-tempo songs she really let herself go. "You know how to love me" is the best example of this. Tell me your thoughts on the song, and the precious, beautiful Phyllis Hyman ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I like that tune, but it's not one of my favorites by her. It just too disco-like for me. My favorite Phyllis Hyman tunes would have to be Living All Alone, Old Friend, Can't We Fall In Love Again, Betcha By Golly Wow, Be Careful (How You Treat My Love), No One Can Love You More, and Gonna Make Changes. Check me out and add me on:

I like this song. I loved her voice. As a child she was one of the First female singers I was into. That was sad that she comitted suicide. May she rest in peace.

I`m glad so many of you know this song. She also made a lot of good music on the philadelphia label, and "old friend" is my favorite from that periode.

Phyllis has a voice you always stop and listen to. I wish she were still here. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

I believe she was a wonderful human being as well as being one of THE finest singers of all time. You can hear her pain in many of her songs, she is one of the few singers that can move me with just their voice. It would have been nice to see a documentary of her, with interviews with those who knew her. I read that she was promised by Arista that she would become the next Diana Ross, but was ignored by the label when they signed Whitney Houston ![]()
