Goldfrapp - Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!

I get to see the beauty that is Goldfrapp live tonight for their sold out show in NYC at the Nokia Theater! woot!

I've seen them live the last time they played in NYC a few years back and was very impressed. Has anyone else had the honor of attending one of their concerts? Or seen the live DVD?

That remains to be seen. I was surprised the first time I saw Alison live when the sounds I thought were keyboard effects were actually her vocals that she replicated on stage.

Yeah, it's supposed to start snowing before the show starts. I usually don't like to wear lots of layers to concerts, but I will have to tonight.

I had a great time at the show last night! I was standing at the center of the floor of the venue a few people back from the stage so I got a nice view of everything. Alison was wearing a black nylon jumpsuit unzipped down to her stomach revealing a lacy black bra. There must have been a wind machine blowing somewhere because her hair was constantly blowing back to get that video effect, lol. The audience was for the most part very enthusiastic and Alison seemed a bit humbled by all the cheers near the end.

The stage set was pretty minimal, most likely because this was just a one-off USA show. No cannons firing confetti into the crowd this time unfortunately--just big disco lights along the rear of the stage behind the band. The one prop that did draw everyone's attention was the two S&M dancers that came onstage for a few songs. Each time they were masked (so we never saw what their faces looked like) wearing slinky bodysuits or bikinis and danced/pranced behind Alison. Too funny.

The band sounded fantastic. The live renditions were very tight, but I thought the bass might have been mixed too high at times. That could have been just from where I was standing however. Maybe the people at the center and rear of the theater heard a more even mix.

Finally, perhaps because I was having such a good time, the set seemed incredibly short. From the beginning to the end of the encore was 70 minutes which is an okay length, but it went by very fast. And only one song from 'Felt Mountain'! Even though that's their album that I like the least, it would have been nice to hear another track in addition to "Lovely Head".

I'll definitely be back for the 2006 U.S. tour in the spring! woot!

Another minor letdown was the fact that there was no merchandise sold. I was looking forward to getting some Goldfrapp booty! giggle

Sounds cool smile Felt Mountain's your least favorite? That one's still my favorite.....Supernature is probably my least favorite. I guess I haven't listened to it enough though. Thanks for the heads up.....I'll try to check them out when they tour next year.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the first album, I just like the later funkier stuff more--especially 'Supernature'. That album blew my mind the first time I listened to it. So groovy!
