these are my faves, off the to of my head. i'm probably missing something
THE BEEKEEPER - Tori Amos (album of the year) Antony & The Johnsons The Decemberists Goldfrapp Kate Bush Bloc Party The Editors a-ha Lewis Taylor The National Juliet The Dears and Arcade Fire, although they both came out in 2004, i didn't get them until early this year White Stripes Interpol (or was that 2004?) New Order Herbie Hancock Erasure Depeche Mode Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill acoustic was incredible But for me the best musical releases of the year were the Cure and Eurythmics reissues. Fucking incredible

The albums I played most in 2005 were all older releases:
3 of 'em were released in the last part of '04, so they were still "new" when 2005 dawned: I also bought (and played the shit out of): Those were truthfully my "Albums of 2005". I played these albums ad naseum throughout the year. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

If we were going to go by 2005 releases, these would have to be my favorite of the year:
As much as I hate to admit it, I did give this one quite a few spins over the summer: My reissue of the year, which I found in pristine condition for $40!!: I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Where? Why? How? There's a local record chain near my apartment that has the best CD prices of any used record store in the area. I'm not sure if it was a mistake or what, but when I saw "the brick" for $40, I knew that I'd regret passing it up. I pretty much made my money back by trading in my old Talking Heads CDs. Even used, that's still a great price. How is it? I've been eyeing it at Best Buy for $150 but I just can't spend that much.

The sound quality is all that I'd hoped for and more. Fear of Music, Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues are the ones I've listened to the most, and they're almost like listening to brand new albums! RIL in particular, is a revelation. I had bought the Once in a Lifetime box a year or two ago, but even so, hearing the entire album sound this good just makes me . There are a few minor quibbles (they could've included more as far as unreleased material, not all of the videos are on the DVD side, the CD packaging is stupid IMO), but overall it's completely worth it! TRON said: Tell me more about the stupid packaging? Well, the entire thing is packaged in a white plastic box, which is pretty cool, I guess. However, each album is packaged in a jewel box with a completely white back. There is no back cover visible, there is no tracklist on the back of the box, there is no writing on the spine of the CD. Other than the album cover, there is no way to distinguish each disc from each other. If you weren't already familiar with which song belonged to which disc, you'd have to open up the case (and in many cases, open up the actual booklet) to look for the tracklisting. Not huge problems, but I do think they're annoying enough. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Also, with the Talking Heads Brick, since the albums are DualDiscs, they are thicker than a regular audio CD. I have to put them in my car stereo about 3 or 4 times to get it to recognize them. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Dude! Copy 'em first. They'll get majorly fucked if you don't. I'm actually in the process of taking the old stuff out of iTunes and putting the newly remastered songs in. This way I can just plug the iPod in the car and keep the CDs pristine in their cases. I can save them for playing in my surround sound system. Fear of Music in Surround Sound...
