Black New Wave Albums?

It seems that in the 80's everyone did a new wave album. Ones that come to mind are The Pointer Sisters (break out), Rick James (cold blooded), Prince Controversy and Dirty Mind). Who else can you think of and please name the albums!

A lot of New Wave influenced songs on this album like Dynamite & Escape from Planet of the Ant Men. His earlier song Let Me Tickle Your Fancy was also new wave, music done by DEVO, I think.Other black New Wave artists Rockwell, Klymaxx, Andre Cymone, & Nona Hendrix

Yeah, an album called 'Livin' In The New Wave' should have been first on this thread.

Also this one is very new wave:

This may or may not qualify because Roach was the only Black member, but Brian O'Neal (Bus Boys) used to produce a group called Roach and The White Boys.

She's...

Bill Summers and Summers Heat '17' (1982)---their earlier albums are pure funk, but in 1982,they jumped on the New Wave bandwagon with this album. It's filled with cheesy synths and drum machines.I'm surprised it didn't get any pop airplay.

Earth Wind and Fire 'Electric Universe' (1983)---I don't know if I should consider this a "New Wave album",but it does contain alot of New Wave sounds on it.For better or worse,it was a huge departure from anything they had done previously.

Donna Summer 'The Wanderer' (1980)---on this album, the former Queen of Disco abandoned dance music entirely and opted for a New Wave sound.

speaking of disco artists....Chic's albums in the early 80s (such as 1981's 'Take It Off') featured alot of New Wave sounds.

i remember buying the single for 'the wanderer' when i was a kid and trying really hard to like it, but not being able to go there with donna. this is the cut-off album as far as i'm concerned - anything before 'the wanderer', i'm very interested in; anything after, you can keep.

'The Wanderer' is a very good album....very edgy and dark, compared to her 70s disco stuff. But for the most part, her 80s output is inconsistent....a few good albums,a few duds along the way.But 'The Wanderer' is a masterpiece, imo.

If you pay more than $3.99 for that one, you're getting ripped off! Seriously, though there are a couple of nice tracks, like "Touch", and The Michel Colombier tune, "We're Living In Our Own Time (El Solitario)", but for the most part...Yeah, it was after that album that Maurice and the gang decided to call it quits for a few years....

Oddly enough,I like 'Electric Universe'.It took them in a whole new direction, although it wasn't the direction most of their fans wanted them to go in.Is it a masterpiece? No.Can it compete with their landmark 70s albums? No.But it's a decent album with a handful of good songs."Touch" is a nice midtempo jam..."Could It Be Right" is one of their finest ballads ever..."We're Living In Our Own Time" is a lovely Philip Bailey ballad....and the first single "Magnetic" is a fun technofunk workout.Admittedly, the other songs are less than spectacular. If this album had been recorded by somebody else,it would have been better received. But the truth is,nobody wanted to hear synth-heavy technofunk/pop from a band like Earth Wind and Fire.
