Robbie Nevil, Kevin Paige, Judson Spence.....where did they go?

Where did these talented cats go?

Shame robbie stopped after what i guess was a dud record, which was 1991's "day one". He writes for other artists now. Shame, i like his voice, and his guitar playing ain't half bad either.

Kevin paige had only 1 album out, but it has its moments. Very digital (DDD) sounding album. "anything i want" is a jam

Judson spense was even more obscure

again mixing light rnb and pop in the late 80's, tracks like "yeah, yeah yeah" are such a hybrid of pop stlyes, it sounds like a van morrison track, but more poppy.

Shame these artsits vanished. I guess u can thank prince for them. All being a bit unique in mixing styles of pop and rnb, and digitalizing them so they sounded dated a few years later.

Robbie nevil in particular is great. I listen to his stuff alot.

I know Robbie writes for other artists.

He co-wrote a song with Taylor Dayne on her last album.

I made some inquiries about Kevin Paige just a year or so ago and found out that he is very involved with a church - as a music director, in Kentucky or somewhere in the south. Of the three you mentioned, I always thought he was the most talented. It sounds like he is happy being out of the spotlight though.

I did some recording with Kevin Paige down in Memphis in late '97. He was a really down to earth cool guy. He was living at his mom's house in Memphis then. Don't know what he's doing know. I didn't think anybody remembered him. I drew a picture of KISS as aliens (he loves KISS) which he stuck up on the wall in his studio. I was just doodling, he thought it was cool. Nice expierence.

That's the thing. They had that whole show about remaking Taylor Dane, they gave her Botox and shit and hooked her up with Darkchild (whose star is also fading) and tried to update her and make her "economically viable" (Vonde Curtis-Hall, remember?) anyway, what does the silly chick do in this fortunate situation? Balk against any change at every turn. There was nothin he could do to take her outta the 80s and at least put her in the realm of Anastacia, cause she wouldn't allow it. And apparently, she turned to other washed up cats for help. "Ooh, I wonder what Sisqo's doin. Maybe he could do a duet..."

odd. He never had any religious overtones on the album i got.

Bfunkthe1, cool story. If u ever see him again, tell him there is at least 1 person who listens to his 1988 set.

Robbie nevil wrote one of the best pop songs of the 90's, jeremy jordans "the right kind of love", which iam sure woulda gone on his album, but i guess he had to give it away to jeremy. Drum programmes date the track, but it really is a classic pop song.

I will. I should track down him down and tell him people are talking about him on prince.org. He'd get a kick out of that.

My band at that time(around '97) use to do a bit of that song in a medley.
To be honest I had never heard it before that. The song I remember is Don't Shut Me Out. I remember hearing that one back in the day.

I was shocked to see his name there. Good programming too. Such a shame his label musta dropped him.
