Exposed to funk and early 80s hip hop and electro music when I was 12 or 13 listened to my local radio station's old school segment on Saturday nights.

followed the crowd at my elementry school of dancing to MC Hammer and also wear the pants and the shoes

it seems like among my siblings when we were each a sophomore in high school some well-known musicians died. When my oldest brother was a sophomore in 1995 Selena and Eazy-E passed away, when I was a sophomore in 1996-97 Tupac and Biggie Smalls passed away, when my other brother was a sophomore in 1999-00 Big Pun died and when my sister was a sophomore 2001-02 Aaliyah and Left Eye of TLC died.

during the summer 1991 (my favorite summer) I can be hearing and loving hearing Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam "Let the Beat hear em", Damien Dame "Exclusivity", Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff "Summertime", Boyz II Men "Motownphilly" Another Bad Creation "Jealous Girl" , Naughty By Nature Opp, Whitney Houston "Miracle" and Mariah Carey "I don't wanna cry" dominant my local R&B station playlist. Also speaking of that summer me and my brothers bragged about how it was cool seeing Ice Cube the rapper acting as we saw him on previews of Boyz In the hood.

watch the Source Awards 1995 with my brothers and watched in amazement how Suge Knight dissed Puff Daddy and also how Snoop Dogg came on that there wasn't no other place like Death Row.

dressing in those plaid shirts and tried to be gangstas during 1993-94 era when
West Coast rappers ruled the charts.

me, my siblings and young cousins were the talk of the night at the family club meeting in 1988 as we danced to E.U. "Da Butt"

Hearing "Headphones" (and Bjork) for the first time when Gangsta played it for me. August 8th, 1996 ~ the day of my spiritual rebirth!

Watching a local dance television show in the 1970s and 1980s called "Black Gold" that would put "Soul Train" to shame. This show featured the hardest funk (not just singles from the album) and when they came down the line, they straight got off. There was none of this prissing down the line, flipping weave, and trying to model and look cute. lol

Wow I wishA? I coulda seen this show. What song would they play

That show was the first place I ever heard Prince's "Head" or Rick James' "Come Into My Life". They got much deeper in the funk than "Soul Train" did. They played stuff like Midnight Star's "Electricity", The Evasions' "Wikka Wrap", Prince's "Lady Cab Driver", etc. Lots of times they played 12 Inch versions too. If it was hot on R&B radio, they played it. It didn't have to even be a single.

The absolute best hip-hop set and one of the best live performances I have ever seen. They were promoting this . . .

And L.O.N.S. opened (got NO love from the crowd) so they did "Scenario" at the end of their set.

Also on the bill: PE (headliner), Naughty By Nature, and the Geto Boys.

That a good C.D. Tribe called Quest if one of my favorites.

Seeing Motowns 25th anniversry in 83 and getting fascinated with Michael Jackson and his brothers performance. I liked seeing all the Motown artists but I was into Michael and Debarge at this time.

And looking at Soul train seeing every one from Deneice Williams New Edition Guy and alot of upcoming new artists. Some popular and some were not.

Indeed, it is an all-time classic. One of the best hip-hop joints ever made and one of the classic albums of its time.

Aw thanks! I love my cottage. I have fewer distractions so my creativity is blossoming and soon I'll have a piano. biggrin

I also forgot to include:

My dad and his band playing amplified with Bobby Z on drums eek outside in our backyard in our quiet suburb until the cops came and made them shut up.
