-The Thriller video came out,I was terrified of it. But my family loved it. They would leave me trembling in the corner and they would get up and do the thriller dance.

-The centipede video by Rebbie Jackson. Scared of that video too.One time it came on I ran to my moms room to hide somehow a caterpillar was in the house and it crawled on my foot. I ran around screaming "centipede! centipede! (damn those Jacksons and their scary videos)

-The "butt" song played at a barbeque. Everyone was doing "the butt" Big round butts swaying everywhere.

- The first time I heard A Motown Christmas .

- The first time I heard: Purple Rain, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT and Lovesexy.

- Hearing "Cafe Reggio's" at my grandmama's house as a young boy

- The time I fell in love to the strains of "Adore."

- The first time I heard Public Enemy at my first house party

- The first time I heard house music, same party

- The first time I heard "A Different Drum," and my first long hike listening to Passion.

- Listening to "Peg" in my mama's car when I was little.

- My first listen to Charlie Parker at my grandfather's house, when he officially introduced me to jazz. It was the last time I saw him before he died a year later.

- Listening to my mother sing "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore" to my little sister and brother as a child.

Going to the Funk Festival at the Cotton Bowl.
Watching Soul Train 70's not waths going on now.
stay up on a friday night watching Midnight Specail with Wolfman Jack & Don Kirshners Rock Concert. and many more

Watching a local dance television show in the 1970s and 1980s called "Black Gold" that would put "Soul Train" to shame. This show featured the hardest funk (not just singles from the album) and when they came down the line, they straight got off. There was none of this prissing down the line, flipping weave, and trying to model and look cute.

Dancing to Soft and Wet at age 9.

Haearing the Lovesexy album when I was 19 and still in the closet.

1. Drumming along on one snare and one low-tom to Nena's "99 Red Balloons", age 6.

2. Asking my uncle to drum along to an MC Hammer tape. It was playing in his headphones so I could just listen to him solo, the hot drum pattern. Haha, he was rolling his eyes because it was so repetitive but it sounded cool!

I don't know. There are quite a few of them. Here's a couple.

Seeing Van Halen in 1979 blew me away. I was 16 and they were the coolest band around at the time.

Hearing Prince for the first time. I was at a friends and her older sister had a record on and Do Me Baby was playing. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I blushed, but I couldn't stop listening to it. I knew right then that I was hearing something unlike anything else I'd ever heard. The rest is history.

- The first moments of my first Prince concert, Capital Centre, 1988.

- a Tribe Called Quest, Baltimore Arena, 1991.

- "Purple Rain," Fox Theatre, Atlanta, GA, 1993.
