Classic YES:
The Yes Album
Fragile
Close to the Edge
probably in that order.
And if you really dig those get:
Relayer
There are other good releases from different eras and line-ups of YES but start with the classics.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

That's from 90125.
That's a different line-up then the "classic" line-up but still a very strong album for that period. Less epic, more melodic and high-tech.

rick wakemen is still there though right? I might pick that album up. Did they go all chicago and go more commercial in the 80's?

You never cease to amaze. I wouldn't have you pegged as a Yes fan. Just goes to show what we really know about eachother from these silly little posts.

At any rate, I agree. That's where I'd start. I was just listening to their greatest hits the other day and it's something I always come back to. That's probably where I'd start if I weren't familiar with their music.

No, Rick Wakeman is not on that one. Rick Wakeman isn't on any of the 80's YES material. And yes they did go more commercial with 90125 and some of Big Generator (album after 90125)

Trevor Rabin added a really good contrast to the group. (To me.)

"Shoot High Aim Low" is a kewl song.
