Nelly and fellow hip-hop star Jermaine Dupri have donated more than $US10,000 ($A13,600) to needy children, after spending the same amount at a strip club.

The rapper revealed to fans at a New York City gig last week that he and Dupri were racked with guilt after their huge night of revelry.

Usher has sparked an investigation at a New York hotel after a fan posing as a maid gained access to his suite and tried to seduce him.

The singer managed to get the devotee out of his room before she stripped in front of him.

"I don't know what she was planning on doing to me," said Usher, "but I said, 'Thanks for stopping by but I'm tired and you have to go'. She left."
