nod Kirk worked on R.'s third lp on the song "Trade In My Life" (1995)

Kirk came public with his addiction a while ago and has been in magazines and on TV a few times talking about it. I really just think that going on O was a way to not only to help let some skeletons out of the churches closet, but also for publicity. shrug Just calling it like I see it. I'm a huge fan of his and I'm about to pick up his new CD this weekend.

Sorry, lost all respect for Kirk! So what he watches porn, who the hell hasn't? His whole confessional begs the question...what the hell did you do while getting your porn on, that made it necessary for you to go on national tv and confess?

Don't get me wrong, I do know that confession is good for the soul, but I have to question WHY this confessional needed to be broadcast worldwide!! shrug

I didn't see the show, and I've never been a fan of Kirk -- and I don't think this'll make me one. I just don't find him that interesting.

But I have much respect for him for going public with this. Effective ministry entails a certain human empathy and vulnerability, and no one who is perfect -- as some believers try to paint themselves -- could possibly have it. Bless him.

Honestly, y'all. rolleyes Kirk is successful enough without having to dredge that up to sell some more CDs. Movie soundtracks, guest songs on other artists' albums, guest hosting shows, ministering at megachurches.

Kirk needs an Oprah confessional to be successful like Oprah needs to buy a Pontiac G6 on credit.

ROFLMAO!! You yourself said he'a about "pushing the envelope". lol I already said dude came public with this a long time ago. So, why is he still talking about it, and on "Oprah" on top of that? You go on Oprah to tell your story to billions of people, and maybe because she'll give you a car.

But being a gospel singer, this could actually HURT his CD sales. It isn't like he's a member of Motley Crue, he's a preacher/singer. Saying he's addicted to porn could wind up being a career ender.

I doubt it will hurt his sales. All he has to do is sing about it and people will love that shit. Nothing better to convince people of the power of God than a sinner who overcame something like an addiction.

Ah, but so many Christians demonize anything to do with sex, to the point that they almost find those things unforgivable. It SHOULDN'T be this way, but it often is. A man can destroy his life, and that of his family, with drugs and alcohol, and when he finally gets rehabilitated it's all good. If he does the same thing with sex, then they place a scarlet letter on him and run him out of town.

I still admire him for doing this. It could destroy his reputation, but he is choosing to put it out there for other's to learn from. I've never really been a fan of his, but I think he's got guts.

Because it will provide a platform for him to deal with it on a larger level. It's a widespread problem within the Church and it's obvious he feels called to address it as a ministry.

My perspective is a little different than the folks who say he's in it for the record sales, because I saw Kirk minister at my church's youth summit a few months ago. He has a heart for helping people -- especially young people -- be free of the things that would hinder them from walking in their God-given destinies.

Does he want to continue to be successful in the entertainment arena? Absolutely. Could there be some residual effect from his Oprah appearance. Of course. Millions of authors want an Oprah endorsement. A good friend of mine wants to appear on Oprah, so she can launch him in his respective field.

But, again, I don't think the material benefit is Kirk's chief concern.

And, I just heard about Kirk's porn addiction a few months ago -- old news or not. clueless

I feel you. As you may now know, Kirk comes to Cashville about twice a year for youth "stuff" which includes free concerts. Several kids at my church helped form the youth choir that backed him. I saw him on the "Nu Nation" tour. Not only was it one of the most funkiest concerts I attended (on the same level with JB and Prince), it was also one of the most powerful worship experiences of my life....for real.
