New Order Question

I'm getting to be a sizeable New Order fan, in particular the Technique album. I'm looking for another album that is similar in sound/style to it, but I haven't had much luck. Can anybody recommend a similar album? I'm a big Depeche Mode/PSB fan too, so I already own their works.

The New Order CDs I own are:

Power, Corruption and Lies
Substance
Technique
Republic
The Best Of
Waiting for the Siren's Call

I also own the first Electronic album.

Also, I'd be interested to hear opinions on Brotherhood and Lowlife, as those are among the next CDs I'm buying.

You have a lot of the best ones.

As far as an album that sounds like Technique, Republic is probably the closest in terms of having a house influence to the sound. But if you like all of their work, you really have to do yourself a favor and pick up Get Ready, Brotherhood and Low-Life. They're probably their most rock-influenced records and Brotherhood in particular is loaded with great songs - nearly every one of them a classic.

Now when I'm in the mood for NO, but don't know what to play I put on the first 2 discs of their Retro box set. The sound quality, the song selection and the artwork are stellar. I'd highly recommend Joy Division's box as well. It changed my life.

Thanks a lot! Obviously I do own Republic, but it never grabbed me in the same way that Technique did. I've seen Brotherhood for $10 in my local FYE, I'll most likely pick it up the next time I'm there.

Yeah, I saw that. But if you're looking for something like Technique, Republic is the only one that comes even close.

Cool about Brotherhood. It might just be their greatest album.

I have to agree, Technique is by far my favorite New Order album.

Was it ever remastered? All i have is the original pressing, and it sounds like crap.

Are there any albums that sound like Technique by other artists? It's supposed to be an "acid house" album, right?

Nope. Never remastered. But all the singles plus "Vanishing Point" are in better quality on various comps.

Well, there's tons of acid house out there.

But if you wanna check out an album in that style done by a rock band, I'd suggest trying The Cure's "Mixed Up".

Own it, I'll have to give it another spin.

Lowlife is slightly better than Brotherhood, but buy 'em both.

I don't know. Any album with Bizarre Love Triangle, Every Second Counts, All Day Long, State of the Nation and Paradise is pretty hard to fuck with.

I agree, Technique is a great era of New Order. (It's certainly my favorite too!) You asked for other albums by others that have that sound. One obviously overlooked is the group Revenge, put together by New Order's Peter Hook. It is slamming - with some great house-sounding synths, heavy bass lines, clever lyrics, and very "New Order sound." Hook put out a couple of Revenge discs but the one I highly recommend is called 'One True Passion.' It came out in the early 90's and has since been remstered and re-issued with bonus tracks this year (called 'One True Passion v2.0').

I forgot about them. Yes...Revenge is very close to Technique. Slave and Pinapple Head are very good. You may wanna try Electronic. It was Bernards side project with Johnny Marr. The first album included the Pet SHop Booys on 21 of the tracks. Electronic's debut is their best of all of them.

You've reminded me that I've gotta dig those albums out.
