Lenny to play Jimi? I ran across this and thought I would pass it along to see what some of you think of it:
Kravitz May Play Hendrix in Biopic Tuesday, November 29, 2005 By Roger Friedman Lenny Kravitz | Judi Dench | National Board of Review Lenny Kravitz in Talks to Play Jimi Hendrix You read it here first: Lenny Kravitz is now in talks to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic of the most famous guitarist in rock history. Sources tell me that Kravitz has secured the dramatic rights to Hendrix’s music through his estate, and that his plan is to make his acting debut with the independent film. Lee Daniels, who directed the forthcoming "Shadowboxer" and produced "Monster’s Ball," is said to be the producer/director. Kravitz is a natural to play Hendrix, from his look to his musical ability. And he may have the acting gene since his mother, the late Roxie Roker, was a star of "The Jeffersons" on TV in the 1970s. One thing the producers might have to do during post-production is eliminate Lenny’s many trademark tattoos. This is a lesson for all you kids out there getting tats: one day you may not want them. They’re not easy to eliminate. (Story continues below) Source: http://www.foxnews.com/st...88,00.html | |

for one Lenny is to light to portray Jimi, and secondly Lenny couldnt hold Jimi's broken guitar strings.Hollywood seems to think any black man with an axe can play Hendrix. | |

I would go with an unknown. Plenty of great, black guitarists out there who are languishing in obscurity. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9) | |

Erm, Lenny's a bit too old, don't you think? Too muscular aswell, and I've never seen him act. [Edited 11/29/05 9:36am] | |

If Madonna (who is a terrible actress) can play Evita somewhat better than I thought she would, then surely Lenny could play Jimi. | |

exactly and Lenny is to thick to play Hendrix. Prince should have gotten that part. Shawt, high yella ass Prince? Neither of them look the part. Case closed. An actor who can play guitar might do well. Wood Harris did a pretty decent job. [Edited 11/29/05 9:47am] | |

Wodd Harris (Remember The Titans) did a decent job of capturing his voice and affect in his 2000 TV movie Jimi portrayal. http://imdb.com/title/tt0260949/
And Andre 3000 would gladly beat Lenny with his own keyboard for a shot at the role. | |

Blaque, u know as well as I do that this topic always generate posts. First it was Andre 3000. Now, it's Lenny. As I ALWAYS state on this topic; it's best to go with an unknown who truly IS a lead guitarist, which Andre and Lenny are not. At least Lenny can really play a guitar, but he is not a lead guitarist. Neither one of them plays left handed. Finding someone to play Jimi is as crucial to the music world as finding the right man to play Malcolm X. Spike did it with Denzel. Finding just any brother to play such a legendary and beloved musician will not suffice. All walks of folks, young and old, ADORES and KNOWS Hendrix music, persona, etc. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Wasn't there talks for Andre 3000 to play Hendrix. Do they need to make another movie on Hendrix though> I remember that Showtime movie years back. I thought it was horrible but I think people seemed to like it. | |

----- Your right it was horrible and so was Wood Harris. The best thing to do is to go with an unknown person. NO one is going see Lenny has Jimi. | |

exactly and Lenny is to thick to play Hendrix. Prince should have gotten that part. i dunno. i'd be more comfy with an unknown, but if lenny is even gonna try this he needa loose ALOT of that weight and muscle. princ couldnt play prince let a lone jimi. too small and too light Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it! | |

There was a movie out back in the early 90's called "Behind The Doors" which was a fictional story about Jimi, Janis, and Jim. The actor (Gregory Alan Jackson) looked JUST LIKE Jimi. He would have been perfect. He also played left handed. There was also another cat named Jack Hammer (yes that's his real name) who was a friend of Jimi's and looked exactly like him. He was supposed to play Jimi in 1984's "The Electric God" but the movie was cancelled.
After all this time, I don't think I even want to see a movie on Jimi.Jimi's aura and vibe is just way too amazing to try and even capture on film. And I don't think we'll see Lenny playing him anytime soon....not if Janie can help it. | |

Lenny is the wrong choice
Prince is 3x the wrong choice (he'd camp it up, could never relax & just ACT)... Andre, I was willing to see what he could do & PRAY he did it decent but honestly they need to get a solid actor OR a solid musician & go from there. I haven't heard a great casting idea yet | |

I think Lenny Kravitz acting as Jimi Hendrix is a horrible choice....
but then again, Lenny has been acting like Jimi Hendrix since day one, IMO. Sorry but I'm not much of a Lenny fan. His first 3 albums were good but he's always seemed like a poser to me. | |
