Cat Stevens John McLaughlin Al Green Santana Madonna Bob Dylan Pete Townsend Peter Green In each case as far as changing their music each artist I listed is different. It would have been interesting to see where John Coltrane was headed. I understand what you are saying. Some artists tried to put to it more into their music. Lately Madonna has been making a lot of statements in the media about her beliefs. That's why I mentioned her.
