A-ha talking about WARNER BROTHERS on "Dont do me any Favours" After listening to this CD countless times I have been trying to see what they are looking to get across in the Lyrics. A-ha has had a mixed relationship with WB, they were signed to them from 1984-2004 in the UK and released and now signed to Universal. But in the States A-ha was let go in 1993 after Memorial Beach was released, A-ha has never really spoke "ill" of Warner Brothers but I know they were very upset about their last 2 Cds not being picked up for USA release, nor did WEA release them in the UK.
On "Dont Do me Any Favours" the track opens with Paul on Acoustic Guitar playing a "riff" that is Very upbeat, in the "take on me" mold. But then the Keys of MAGS come in and the Modd sombers a bit and Then MORTEN starts to sing. Some of the Lyrics can be sited as being towards their relation with WB. Heres a sample of some Lyrics Your own Participation's Based on How much U can lose Dont give me any credit cuz i do not want the blame dont do me any favours I dont want to play that game I dont want to see myself as someone that U saved I'd rather be your adversary than to be your slave Every friendly gesture turns my stomach inside out dont do me any favours I am better off without Well just a sample but i think you can see that they are voicing their feelings towards WB possibly the Industry too. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |
