The Bayou Classic: Battle of the Bands at halftime (yeah, the logo's from last year but the event's still the same--and please don't move this thread, mods, as this does have more to do with the musical aspect of the event.) when i was a little girl, my dad turned me on to watching the bayou classic on teevee every november to watch the battle of the bands during halftime. my dad's originally from louisiana and he used to go to the superdome to see the game live back in the day, so it was one of the things he'd always tell me about when i was younger. thankfully it's televised every year so i could see all what went on...and especially this year, thankfully it's still going on even though the bayou classic's being played in texas due to hurricane katrina hitting new orleans earlier in the year. my dad told me that they almost weren't gonna do it this year because of that. anyway, the battle of the bands is hands down the best part of the bayou classic, and for good reason: not only the showmanship of both the grambling and southern bands, but the way they work with different songs and have 'em arranged to work in a college marching band setting. they'll throw in both old school stuff, as well as new-school. if you've never seen it before, it's on NBC right now...halftime's coming up real quick (there's a little under 8 minutes left in the 2nd quarter as i type this) so tune in if you wanna see. anybody else 'round here watch the bayou classic for the halftime event? good times! | |
