Slide by Slave

Is there anyone Slave fans out there? Slide by Slave is one of my favorites.

Hell yeah! That was and still is the jam! Remember when Cameo tried to cover the song? Man, they butchered it. They took all the funk out! Slave was just too cool. Love that groove. "Why don'tchoo sliiiddeeeee?"

Cameo took the funk out? That's an oxymoron in and of itself. There were two versions of "Slide" by Cameo. One was very funky. The other one was more a dance version.
Slave was great. Slide was cool. Long live funk.

The guitar solo by Marc "Drac" Hicks belongs in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame (right up there with "MaggotBrain").

It was the 90s. A lot of artists did things they shouldn't have. Prince started rapping on his songs, for example.

Slave appeared around the release of Showtime ( 1981 ) on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert , performing : Slide / Snap Shot / Spice Of My Life / Watching You / Wait For Me , and For The Love Of You .
Steve Arrington still sliding along before his departure to start his mighty Hall Of Fame :

Left to right : unknown - guitar / Floyd Miller ( trombone / percussion ) / Charles Cedell Carter ( saxophone / keyboards ) / Delburt Taylor ( trumpet / keyboards )

Mark " The Hansolor " Adams on the monster-dance-bass

Roger " Dodger " Parker ( formerly in Faze-O )

I like Cameo's version also. It wasn't Cameo at their best but, hey, it was the 1990s and the song was better than most anything else on the radio that year. By then, funk was practically extinct and hell, I was desperate for some funk of any kind in the 1990s. lol

There were some okay cuts from Slave in the 90's on these albums :

Rebirth - 1990

The Funk Strikes Back - 1992 ( last reunion with Drac )

Masters Of The Fungk - 1996 ( re-worx of former hits )

Thanks. I'll be looking for those. "Master Of The Fungk" sounds really interesting. I have a remixed version of "Just A Touch Of Love" on a compilation called "Everybody Dance! The Best Of Remixed Dance Classics" on Rhino Records. It contains remixed versions of various classic dance songs by the original artists.

Man Spyz, I've stated SEVERAL times on here that Marc's solo is the blueprint to P's solo in "Get It Up".
