Damn! Maybe to make room for another A side or maybe in case she decides to not release 5. I get the feeling that I Love NY may get a release....though all the critics hate it hmmm lol I say this because she performed it live and she has it on her site playing. Though I would love for this news to be to make room for How high and Let it will be.

you are correct. wink they also used to play the performance of "Into The Groove" from her 'Who's That Girl?' tour when the album "You Can Dance" was released.

yes there was a video, but it is not an offical Madonna video. it was put together at the request of MTV.

Perhaps, but the song was still represented by a video on MTV - to the average viewing audience it makes no difference.

Madonna was still riding on Material Girl, WB was getting Angel ready to go and Geffen out out Crazy for You to push their soundtrack and put out a hodgepodge video, so WB didn't want to flood the market. than DJ's started playing Into the Groove and Angel. MTV like Into the Groove and got Orion Pictures to put together a video for MTV. And than Geffen counted that by releasing Gambler in the UK and WB than released the concert montage of Dress You Up. So there were 5 Madonna tracks in the top 20 at one time in 85. It was a fight to see who could get the most out of the market.

It's a shame that "Bad Girl" didn't become a bigger hit. It's my favorite song on 'Erotica' and the video is one of her best. For the most part,I think people prefer her to sing uptempo songs.

Does anyone know what songs are slated for release? And what happened to all the bonus trax? Super Pop is it? This album could benefit from a remix album. Too bad she blew that wad on the last one.

From what I've heard the singles that have been chosen are:

Hung Up
Sorry
Jump
Get Together

in that order. Apparently they want to release 5 but haven't decided on a 5th yet. I'm in total agreement with them so far.

That's 4 strong singles.I would be thrilled if those were the singles. And "Push" would make a great fifth single.

The ascent of 'Hung Up'" on the Billboard Hot 100 ties Madonna with Elvis Presley for the most top 10 hits for any artist in the rock era.

November 24, 2005, 12:00 AM ET
Fred Bronson
'HUNG' UP: By moving up 14-7 on The Billboard Hot 100, Madonna's "Hung Up" (Warner Bros.) generates a great deal of chart news this week. The most important feat is matching Elvis Presley's 36 top 10 hits, the most for any artist in the rock era.

Madonna racked up that tally in 21 years, five months and three weeks, counting back to the week that "Borderline" peaked in the top 10. Presley scored his 36 top 10 hits in 16 and a half years, from the first week in 1956 that "Heartbreak Hotel" made the top 10 of the Best Sellers in Stores chart until the week in 1972 when "Burning Love" entered the top 10.

"Hung Up" is Madonna's highest-charting single in almost five years, since "Don't Tell Me" reached No. 4 in February 2001. It is her first top 10 hit since "Die Another Day" bonded to the No. 8 position in 2002. Madonna already held the record for the most top 40 hits by a solo female artist; she continues in first place as "Hung Up" becomes her 45th top 40 hit, out of 51 chart entries. Aretha Franklin is in second place with 43.

The parent album to "Hung Up" debuts at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. "Confessions on a Dance Floor" is Madonna's sixth album to achieve pole position. Her No. 1 albums to date are:

"Like a Virgin," three weeks (1985)
"True Blue," five weeks (1986)
"Like a Prayer," six weeks (1989)
"Music," one week (2000)
"American Life," one week (2003)
"Confessions on a Dance Floor," one week to date (2005)

woot! dancing jig woot!

[last thread in series: http://www.prince.org/msg...508708351]

I thought madonna was the bigger star

her albums have only spent a cummulative total of 17weeks at #1

purple rain spend 24weeks at #1

thriller spend 37 weeks at #1

Regardless of how long those Madonna albums remained at Number One,she still sold an impressive amounnt of albums. For example,'Like A Virgin' spent only three weeks at Number One,but it still managed to sell over 10 million copies in the USA (19 million worldwide). Her next album,1986's'True Blue',sold over 7 million copies in the US and 20 million copies worldwide.By that time,Prince was barely selling a million copies in the US.

speeddemon said:

Between 1955 and 1958, Billboard published four different types of pop singles chart: Top 100, sales, disk jockeys and juke boxes. While the three latter charts varied between 20 and 50 positions, the Top 100 had - surprise surprise - 100 positions and was the result of the three other charts being combined.

Fred Bronson uses the Billboard Top 100 chart for the years 1955-1958, while Joel Whitburn uses a specially-made amalgamation of these four pop charts, by taking the best result from each chart. For example, a song spent 20 weeks in the Top 100 but only peaked at #5 while it only spent 13 weeks in the disk jockey chart but peaked at #3 - then he will take the 20 weeks from the one chart and the peak #3 peak of the other chart and list that song as a #3 peak that spent 20 weeks in the chart. This automatically means that Elvis (and all other acts that charted from 1955-1958) are shown with better (optimized) chart histories then they had in the Top 100 (which was the precursor of the Hot 100).

I'm not sure if you copied this word for word, or originally posted it elsewhere yourself, however it was posted word for word on UKMIX. The next poster noted that even if it were true Elvis would still have 38. The person who'd posted [your comment above] then said they had gotten it wrong, and that Bronson is using only the Sales chart and NOT the Billboard Top 100 for 1955-1958 and counting Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog as one only, and counting Don't/I Beg Of You as one only, therefore just removing two chart hits to result in 36. So going by Billboard Top 100 it is 38.

As a few other posters have noted, there have been so many changes in how charts are done and in the industry itself that even when we think we are comparing apples to apples we aren't. That said, I agree with hellomoto that Madonna will likely pass the 38.

That said if shed been doing the prommotion then like she does today, im sure BS & Erotica would have both been bigger hits.

i dont agree at all, i actually dont understand how it got number one, its not really a standout song, maybe because of the filmclip? i think secret deserved to be number 1. i cant understand alot of madonnas us number ones though, crazy for you, this used to be my playground, whos that girl, take a bow, and although i like justify my love, i dont understand how it got number 1, maybe the filmclip as well got it there? alot of madonnas classics didnt get number 1 like holiday, material girl, express yourself, cherish, frozen and dont tell me.

It's easy to see why "Take A Bow" was a major hit. It's one of her best ballads ever, and it was co-produced by Babyface. At the time,he was the hottest producer in the world.Radio played anything that he was involved with.

I cant argue with those either , but I'd hate to see Push get pushed out of the mix of potential singles. I think radio would be all over that.

Also , anyone think Forbidden Love should be slid in the middle there somewhere as the "slower" song on the album to break up the killer dance beats for a bit of variety . some people might get turned off of 3 or 4 thumppa thumppa dance singles in a row.

Alot of options here, but if those 4 above are it, I cant complain
