Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Miles Davis among 2006 RRHOF Inductees

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Iconic rock acts Black Sabbath and the Sex Pistols lead the 2006 class of inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They will be joined by jazz legend Miles Davis, Southern rock mainstays Lynyrd Skynyrd and New York new wave outfit Blondie for the induction, which will be held March 13 at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

A&M Records co-founders Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss will receive a lifetime achievement award in the non-performer category. Inductees in the side-men category have yet to be announced.

Artists are eligible for the Rock Hall 25 years after the release of their first album. The 2005 class featured Buddy Guy, the Pretenders, U2, the O'Jays and Percy Sledge.

This year, the Rock Hall is for the first time offering four pairs of tickets to the induction ceremony for sale to the general public via a raffle. For more information, visit the organization's Web site. http://www.rockhall.com/

I hate to split hairs but how come Van Halen wasn't inducted?

This may sound weird to most of you but I think the original lineup was America's equivalent to Led Zeppelin. (As far as that awesome guitarist, charismatic singer, excellent rhythm section, icon thing.) It's great to see Buddy Guy, and Miles and Sabbath inducted too.
