80s R&B classic of the day: "A Night To Remember" by Shalamar (1982)

"A Night To Remember" music

written by Dana Meyers,Charmaine Sylvers and Nidra Beard

When you love someone,it's natural not demanding
and that's one thing I'm proud to say I've found in you
I'm so glad we've reached an understanding
now I know my heart is safe with you
So now my love to you, baby I surrender

Get ready,tonight
gonna make this a night to remember
Get ready (oh baby) tonight
gonna make this a night to remember

Celebration in my heart cause we're united
and there's nothing in this world to come between me and you
we're together and it keeps me so excited
to think of what the power of love can do
and I'm filled with a love that's oh so tender

Get ready (baby) tonight (girl)
I'm gonna make this a night to remember
Get ready (get ready) tonight
I'm gonna make this a night to remember

make this a night to remember

Get ready tonight
gonna make this a night to remember
Get ready (get ready) tonight
gonna make this a night to remember

This night you won't forget
gonna make this a night to remember
cause your love I won't regret
gonna make this a night to remember

Get ready (baby) tonight (darlin)
gonna make this a night to remember
Get ready (it won't be like the past)
tonight (I will make it last)
gonna make this a night to remember

Tonight
make this a night to remember
Tonight
make this a night to remember

Let's make a toast to those who helped make this occasion
they turn their back on love and that's what drove you straight to me
now to you I make a lasting dedication
I'll show you all that life and love can be
and each day that I live I will deliver

Get ready (this night you won't forget)
gonna make this a night to remember
Get ready (cause your love I won't regret)
gonna make this a night to remember

Get ready (baby) tonight (darlin)
gonna make this a night to remember
Get ready (it won't be like the past)
tonight (I will make it last)
gonna make this a night to remember

I think this is probably my favorite Shalamar song.Earlier hits like "Take That To The Bank","The Second Time Around" and "This Is For The Lover In You" are excellent, but I think they really reached their peak with "A Night To Remember".I remember buying the 'Friends' album in the spring of 1982.

I also like the songs "Don't Try To Change Me","Help Me" and "I Can Make You Feel Good".Without question,'Friends' is their best album.

I love "A Night To Remember". I especially like the breakdown in the middle.

That album had lots of other great jams also such as "Friends", "Playing To Win", "I Can Make You Feel Good", and "I Don't Want To Be The Last To Know".

See for me that song is now associated with some dreadful adverts for Bingo here in the UK. My liking for it has decreased with ever single airing of that advert.

I agree 100% with what you said.

Howard Hewitt rules. The band was great. Did you hear his version of the Prince-written "Allegiance"?

Silky smooth-budda voice, Howie Hewitt. Miss him so...

I thought the liberty x version sounds almost exactly the same as Shalamars version minus the brilliant vocals of the original. It's a shame that all the kids who never knew the original will buy this shit!!
